Hey everyone, DennisCW here! Today, I want to dive into some concerning numbers surrounding Tesla's Cybertruck, Model S, and Model X sales. If you’ve been keeping an eye on Tesla’s delivery reports, you might have noticed a steep decline in sales for these models. In this post, we’ll break down the latest figures, discuss the potential for significant incentives, and explore what this means for prospective buyers. Let’s get into it!
Tesla’s most recent delivery numbers paint a grim picture for the Cybertruck, Model S, and Model X. Combined, these three vehicles sold just 10,394 units in the latest quarter. To put this into perspective, that’s a drop from 12,000 units in the previous quarter and a staggering decline from 23,000 units in the same quarter last year. That’s roughly a 50% drop year-over-year and a consistent downward trend quarter-over-quarter.
Breaking it down further, the Cybertruck seems to be struggling the most. According to estimates from Troy Teslik, only about 4,900 Cybertrucks were sold in the US during the past quarter. When you consider that these three vehicles combined make up just 2.7% of Tesla’s total sales (as pointed out by Andy on X), it’s clear that Tesla has a problem on its hands with these models.
One of the biggest red flags here is the inventory levels for the Cybertruck and Model X. These are currently the highest inventory vehicles in Tesla’s lineup, which typically signals oversupply and underwhelming demand. When inventory piles up like this, manufacturers often turn to incentives to move units off the lot—and Tesla might be no exception.
Currently, Tesla is offering 0% financing on the Cybertruck, bundled with Full Self-Driving (FSD). While this is a decent start, many in the community, including Chris on X, believe that a $20,000 price cut might be necessary to make the Cybertruck competitive in the current market. I’m not sure Tesla will slash prices by that much right away—imagine the headlines if they did! Instead, I think we might see a gradual approach with smaller price reductions paired with additional perks like free Supercharging or unbundling FSD from the 0% financing deal.
There’s also a potential temporary boost on the horizon for Q3. With the $7,500 federal tax credit set to disappear for rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive Cybertrucks, some buyers might rush to purchase before the credit expires. But will that be enough to reverse the declining delivery numbers? I’m not so sure.
If you’re in the market for a Cybertruck, Model S, or Model X, this could be an interesting time to buy. With sales numbers trending downward and inventory piling up, Tesla may roll out some serious incentives in the near future. But I want to hear from you—what kind of deals would convince you to pull the trigger on a Cybertruck or another Tesla model? Are you holding out for 0% financing without FSD, a major price cut, or something else like free Supercharging for life? Drop your thoughts in the comments below!
On the flip side, these declining numbers might give some buyers pause. If you’re considering one of these models, it’s worth asking whether Tesla will continue to prioritize updates and support for vehicles that represent such a small fraction of their sales. It’s a bit of a gamble, and the downward trend is, frankly, a little alarming.
While we’re on the topic of Tesla ownership, let’s talk about something a bit more fun—accessories! If you’ve recently bought a Tesla or are about to, you might be surprised to learn that it comes with zero accessories. Not even a phone mount! The declining sales of the Cybertruck, Model S, and Model X are a concerning trend for Tesla, and it’s clear that something needs to change to stimulate demand. Whether that’s a massive price cut, creative incentives, or a combination of both, only time will tell. For now, if you’re considering one of these models, keep a close eye on Tesla’s announcements—you might just snag a great deal soon.
What do you think Tesla should do to boost sales of these models? Are you in the market for a Cybertruck, and if so, what incentives would seal the deal for you?
