Hey everyone, DennisCW here! If you're a fan of my YouTube channel, you know I'm all about electric vehicles, from my fleet of Teslas to the latest EVs hitting the market. Recently, I headed to X Takeover, an event buzzing with all things electric, and one of my top priorities was getting behind the wheel of the Lucid Gravity. I've been hyped about this SUV since its announcement, and I finally got the chance to check it out up close, including a test drive. In this blog post, I'll share my walkthrough, drive impressions, and a deep dive into its features based on my chat with a Lucid rep. Let's dive in!
X Takeover kicked off at 10 a.m., and I timed it perfectly—there was no line for the Lucid Gravity test drive! The model on display was a stunning Aurora Green exterior with a Tahoe brown interior. It reminded me of the green wrap I did on my Cybertruck, and it looked premium right off the bat. This wasn't the top-tier Dream Edition but a fully loaded Grand Touring model, which starts around $126,000 (fully optioned).
I did a quick walkaround before hopping in. The Gravity has that sleek, futuristic Lucid design, but as an SUV, it offers way more utility than the Air sedan. It's got rear-wheel steering for tight turns, a five-chamber air suspension for a smooth ride, and it's built for comfort—something I prioritize after owning multiple Teslas.
Sliding into the driver's seat felt luxurious. The interior is spacious, with high-quality materials and a massive panoramic roof that lets in tons of light (it has a fixed tint, no electrochromic option, but it's impressive nonetheless). The screens are massive and intuitive—no major glitches during my poke-around, which is a win compared to some other EVs.
Key features I explored:
The rep mentioned this Grand Touring has the dynamic handling package, including rear-wheel steering, which we tested with a tight U-turn around a pole. Super maneuverable for such a big SUV!
Time for the fun part—the drive! A Lucid rep joined me (unlike Tesla's solo test drives), and we took it for a loop. I intentionally hit some bumps to test the suspension, and wow, it handled them like a champ. EVs often struggle with stiff rides due to battery weight, but Lucid nailed the comfort here. It's smoother than my Teslas, including the Cybertruck, which is my current favorite for utility.
Acceleration in Swift mode felt responsive without being overwhelming, and the steering was tight. We chatted about how it compares to gas cars—it's got that instant EV torque but with a refined edge. No complaints on road noise or comfort; this thing is built for long hauls.
Pricing was a hot topic. The Grand Touring we drove is about $126K fully loaded, while the Dream Edition jumps to $139K MSRP (closer to $160K out the door) for extra horsepower, special badging, and limited production (one of 450). My friend just ordered a Dream, and we discussed delivery timelines—1-2 months build time, so ordering now might squeak in before the tax credit deadline on September 30th, depending on colors.
On leasing: Many are doing it to capture the $7,500 federal tax credit, then buying out. Lucid allows it, but there's a higher money factor on Dreams, so run the numbers. Early adopters (like Air Dream owners) are often buying outright.
The Gravity shines in utility. It's a three-row SUV, but you can save $2,900 by skipping the third row for extra storage. The third row fits adults up to about 5'10" comfortably (our 6'3" rep squeezed in, but it's better for kids on long trips). It folds flat automatically, giving you 8 feet of cargo space. The second row also folds completely flat, and there are accessories to level it out for camping or hauling.
Other perks: USB-C ports everywhere, motorized sunshades, and rear AC vents. The massive roof and adjustable seats make it road-trip ready.
After my test drive, I'm even more excited about the Gravity. It's luxurious, comfortable, and tech-packed, addressing common EV pain points like suspension and usability. If you're in the market for a premium electric SUV and can swing the price, it's worth considering—especially with test drives rolling out at Lucid centers now.
Compared to my Cybertruck, it's less polarizing but more refined for daily driving. Would I trade in one of my Teslas for it? Maybe! Let me know in the comments what you think—have you driven one yet?
