Hey everyone, DennisCW here! If you've been following the electric vehicle (EV) world, you've probably heard the latest bombshell: Mercedes-Benz is throwing in the towel on some of their EV ambitions in the US. They've halted production orders due to slowing demand and sky-high inventories at dealerships. As someone who's always keeping an eye on the EV space, I wanted to dive into this in today's blog post, based on my recent video. We'll talk about what this means for the market, some insane depreciation deals, and even a few must-have accessories for your Tesla. Let's break it down.
Mercedes has been aggressive with their EQ lineup, rolling out a bunch of models like the EQS, EQE, and more. At one point, they were practically putting them on clearance to move inventory. It's a classic case of flooding the market too quickly instead of easing in. Kudos to them for trying to grab a big slice of the EV pie, but let's be real – the EV market isn't as massive as some hype it up to be. A huge chunk of it is dominated by Tesla, thanks to their superior tech, charging network, and overall appeal.
This halt isn't just a Mercedes problem; it's a sign of broader challenges in the luxury EV segment. Slowing demand means dealerships are sitting on piles of unsold cars, and that's forcing some tough decisions. If you're in the market for a high-end EV, this could be your golden opportunity – but more on that in a sec.
One of the wildest side effects of this market slowdown is the insane depreciation we're seeing on these vehicles. If you thought Tesla's depreciation was rough, buckle up. Take the 2022 Mercedes EQS, which was positioned as a direct competitor to the Tesla Model S. You can snag one for as low as $27,000 to $29,000 with around 39,000 miles. That's a steal for a luxury sedan that originally stickered well over $100,000!
And it's not just Mercedes. Lucid is feeling the heat too. A 2023 Lucid Air Touring is going for about $43,000 – pretty in line with used Model S prices, but still a massive drop from new. These deals are popping up because of the oversupply and shifting buyer preferences. Sure, some have higher miles, but for the right buyer, this could be an attractive entry into luxury EVs.
What do you think? Would you scoop up a discounted EQS or Lucid Air, or stick with a Tesla Model S for its ecosystem and reliability? Drop your thoughts in the comments below – I'd love to hear which one you'd choose and why!
Shifting gears a bit – if you've already got your Tesla (or are about to), you know it comes pretty bare-bones on accessories. No phone mount, no organizers... nothing! But don't stress; I've got some must-haves that every Tesla owner should consider, all from our awesome partner, Joa.
Here are a few of my favorites:
Joa doesn't stop there. They've got a wireless game controller that tucks neatly into the glove box, a portable air compressor for road trip peace of mind, and even an electric scooter to zip around from chargers without breaking a sweat.

The EV landscape is evolving fast, and Mercedes' pause is a reminder that not every player can keep up with the pace setters like Tesla. Whether you're eyeing those depreciated luxury bargains or just pimping out your current ride, there's plenty to get excited about. What are your takes on the EV market right now?
