Hey everyone, Dennis here from DennisCW! If you're a Tesla enthusiast like me, you know the excitement around new releases can be electric (pun intended). In my latest video, I dove into the buzz surrounding the new Tesla Model Y refresh, including hidden inventory, potential discounts, and a bunch of other Tesla-related topics. Today, I’m turning that into this blog post to break it all down for you in an easy-to-read format. We'll cover everything from where to find these elusive new models to what incentives might be on the horizon. Let's hack some deals together!
First off, if you've been keeping an eye on Tesla's inventory pages, you might have noticed something odd—the new Model Y isn't showing up where you'd expect. A few sharp-eyed viewers spotted this yesterday, and it's a big deal for anyone in the market for a Tesla. Tesla has tucked away the new Model Y inventory in a special section, hiding it from the main inventory pages. Instead, you'll find it at the bottom of the Model Y ordering page.
Here's how it works: When you configure your Model Y—picking options, lease details, and all that—if you scroll all the way down, you might see a prompt showing vehicles available today. For example, there's a white Model Y up for grabs in California right now. But here's the catch: These are only long-range all-wheel drive models. No rear-wheel drive, no seven-seater options, and definitely no performance variants yet. The launch series? Yeah, that ship's sailed—it's no longer available.
This setup is interesting because it suggests Tesla might be dealing with lower demand than anticipated. According to Frederick Lambert (a reliable source in the Tesla world), Tesla has about four days of demand backlog for these non-launch edition models in the US. That's a red flag, especially when you compare it to markets like China, where they're already offering 0% financing and discounts. We're seeing this inventory pop up in places like Tennessee, Texas, and beyond, not just California. If you're hunting for one, drop your zip code in the comments—I'd love to hear where you're spotting availability.
Now, for the million-dollar question: Where are the discounts? Spoiler alert—there are none right now on these new Model Y vehicles. But don't lose hope. I think we're on the cusp of some changes. Tesla might introduce incentives as soon as the end of this quarter, possibly even 0% interest rates or free Full Self-Driving (FSD) trials. Viewers in the chat were throwing out ideas like 0% financing for 69 months or loyalty cash bonuses, and I have to say, free FSD sounds like a game-changer for those upgrading from older models.
Why the wait? Well, the new Model Y refresh is still fresh, and it might take time for awareness to build. Once more people see these on the roads, demand could pick up naturally. Best-case scenario? We see rear-wheel drive options, incentives, and maybe even seven-seater configs by the end of this month or next. If you're eyeing a purchase, it pays to be patient—Tesla's Q3 or Q4 (September to December) is historically the sweet spot for deals.
One of the best parts of my videos is the community feedback. Folks like Jack shared their experiences, like switching from a Chevy Colorado to a new Model Y and loving the tech upgrade. (Quick side note: If you're coming from a truck or SUV, the comfort might take some getting used to, but it's a massive leap in innovation.)
We also touched on broader Tesla trends. For instance, is the Model Y demand really that low? It could be due to economic uncertainty, high prices (jumping from $35k for the old model to $48k+ for the new one is a tough pill), or even negative equity on existing Teslas. Plus, with tariffs on the rise, people might be holding off. Speaking of which, let's dive into that next.
Looking ahead, two big factors could turn things around in the next three to six months: tariffs and gas prices. The new tariffs on Chinese imports are in effect, but Tesla's vertically integrated manufacturing in the US might shield them somewhat. Elon Musk mentioned some exposure to part price increases, but so far, the Model Y only went up by $1,000—less than I expected.
Then there's gas. As we head into summer, prices are creeping up (we're already at nearly $5 a gallon in California). Historically, high gas prices drive people to EVs like Tesla because charging at home is way cheaper and more convenient. If you're thinking about going electric, make sure you have a dedicated Level 2 charger—it's a game-changer. Shoutout to my friend Mario at Smart Plug EV for Tesla-authorized installations in SoCal; mention the 'Dennis deal' for some perks!
We also chatted about fun stuff like the wild Cyber Roadster concept. Imagine a bulletproof Batmobile vibe with a matte black wrap—sign me up! But seriously, it's got me wondering if Tesla might pivot from the standard Roadster design.
On customizations, you can't tweak the daytime running lights out of the box, but aftermarket kits from companies like SW Lights are in the works. And for used Teslas, deals are popping up everywhere—think a 2022 Model 3 for under $9,000 if you qualify for the $4,000 used EV tax credit. High mileage, sure, but with partners like Amber for month-to-month warranties, it's a smart way to dip your toes in.
No new Tesla models are expected in 2025, but stripped-down versions of the Model 3 and Y could hit soon. Meanwhile, competitors like Rivian are gearing up with their R2, which might lure some defectors.
