Hey everyone, DennisCW here! Welcome back to another exciting update on all things Tesla. In today’s blog post, we’re diving deep into the latest rumors surrounding a more affordable Tesla Model Y, potentially codenamed E80, along with some other cool Tesla news and updates. If you’re as passionate about Tesla deal hacking as I am, you’re in for a treat. Let’s get started!
The internet is buzzing with reports from Tesla Newswire and Chinese social media about a rumored affordable Tesla Model Y, possibly launching as early as July this year. This new variant, codenamed E80, could be a game-changer with an estimated price of around $26,000 to $28,000 USD. But what does “affordable” mean in terms of features? Let’s break down the speculated specs:
This stripped-down version seems to mirror the affordable Model 3 variant available in Mexico, which is likely produced in a US factory. The goal here appears to be getting more people into the Tesla brand at a lower entry price point. But will this devalue the brand, or will it entice buyers to upgrade to higher trims with more features? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!
Our friend Paul from the channel shared an intriguing article on Clean Technica titled, “Why I Think Tesla’s Most Affordable Model Will Be a Success for Reasons Nobody Is Talking About.” Without giving away too much, the piece suggests that even with reduced features, this model could appeal to a broader audience. I recommend checking out the full article for a deeper dive.
Let me know in the comments: Are any of these potential feature cuts dealbreakers for you? For me, I could live without ventilated seats, but a downgraded speaker system or manual trunk might be harder to accept. It all comes down to the price difference between this base model, a rear-wheel drive variant, or an all-wheel drive version. What’s your take?
Tesla is now offering 48-hour test drive vouchers for the Cybertruck. This is a brilliant move because, let’s be honest, the Cybertruck looks wild from afar. But once you drive it and experience the tech—like four-wheel steering—you’ll understand why it’s so revolutionary. I challenge you to head to your local Tesla store and ask for a test drive. They’ll hand you the keys, no questions asked!
I recently came across a Model Y wrapped in a satin dark purple, reminiscent of a Cybertruck wrap we did. It looks majestic in photos, though I’m not sure how I’d feel about it in person. We also spotted one of the first Diamond Black Model Ys, a new color option, and let me tell you—it sparkles like crazy! The paint flakes are mesmerizing, and it’s got me rethinking my current Quicksilver Model Y (which we’ve since wrapped in red). Are you loving the Diamond Black, or would you stick with another color?
Tesla is inviting new Model Y owners to experience factory deliveries at Giga Texas, complete with a tour of the facility. This elevates the delivery process to a whole new level, much like the launch series Model Y delivery events. If you’re near Austin, Texas, this could be an incredible opportunity. Would you be interested in a factory delivery tour for a Model Y or even a Cybertruck? Let me know!
If you’ve recently bought a Tesla or are about to, you might be surprised to learn it comes with zero accessories. No phone mount, no center console organizer—nothing! That’s why I’ve partnered with Jowua, a fantastic brand for Tesla accessories. Here are my must-haves:
Jowua also offers unique products like a wireless game controller, a portable air compressor, and even an electric scooter for zipping around from Superchargers. Use my promo code in the description below to save money and get free shipping on orders over $120. Plus, you’ll be supporting the channel!
Another accessory I can’t recommend enough is the all-weather floor mats from 3W Liners. I’ve tested many brands, and these are by far my favorite for our Model X, Model 3, Model Y, and Cybertruck. Use my promo code below to save 25% and get a set for under $100 while supporting the channel.
On a more serious note, Tesla’s automotive gross margin (excluding regulatory credits) dropped to 12.5% in Q1 2025, the lowest in recent years. With deep discounts over the past year—sometimes up to $11,000 off a Model Y—prices have come down significantly from their peak of $67,000. But can Tesla sustain further price cuts or offer more incentives? With margins getting squeezed, there might not be much room left. What do you think—will Tesla find a way to keep discounts coming, or have we hit the pricing floor?
I love interacting with you all during my live streams, and here are some highlights from the comments:
Charging at Superchargers Only: A viewer asked if it’s okay to rely solely on Superchargers while living in an apartment. My advice? While studies show Supercharging doesn’t degrade the battery much (if you charge between 20-80%), it’s not ideal long-term. Supercharging is expensive—comparable to hybrid vehicle costs—and time-consuming unless a station is near your home or work. I recommend having access to a Level 2 charger at home or work before buying an EV.
Affordable Models and Full Self-Driving (FSD): One viewer suggested that cheaper models might encourage more people to subscribe to FSD at $100/month, or even use these vehicles as robo-taxis to generate income. That’s an interesting perspective!
Model 3 Performance Leasing Deals: Several of you asked about leasing deals on the Model 3 Performance. Unfortunately, the high money factor (9.38%) makes leasing less attractive compared to financing at 0-0.99% APR. Check my deal spreadsheet linked below for the latest discounts and rates.
Lastly, there’s drone footage from the Fremont factory showing mysterious wrapped vehicles. Could this be a Model S refresh, or something entirely new? With heavy incentives like 0% APR on the Model 3 last month, Tesla might be clearing inventory for upcoming announcements in May. Stay tuned for more updates, and let me know what you think these wrapped vehicles could be!
