Hey everyone, DennisCW here! If you're a Tesla enthusiast like me, you've probably heard about the clever workaround to use your credit card for purchasing a Tesla – and guess what? It seems like it's still going strong. In my latest video, I dove into the details, and today I'm breaking it down in this blog post. Let's get into it!
Just yesterday, we thought Tesla might have patched this up by removing car purchases from their gift card page. But hold on – it's not over yet! A big shoutout to Krishna, who shared some fresh screenshots proving that the method is still operational. He successfully bought over $3,000 in Tesla gift cards using his credit card and applied them directly as a down payment on a Model Y.
Here's the deal: Even though Tesla has tweaked the gift card purchase page to exclude direct car buys, you can still purchase gift cards with your credit card and redeem them for vehicle down payments. Krishna's example shows a total of $3,120 in Tesla credits (from gift cards) applied seamlessly to his purchase. Check out the screenshot he shared – dated today – it's legit!
(Note: Actual screenshot from Krishna's purchase – proof that it works!)
If you're scratching your head wondering why this is a big deal, let me explain. Buying a Tesla is a significant investment, and if you're putting down a hefty down payment anyway, why not maximize the rewards? This loophole lets you charge those gift cards to your credit card, helping you hit those lucrative sign-up bonuses.
You know the ones – like "Spend $5,000 in the first 60 days and get 80,000 points" or even 100,000 points. I've linked a couple of great credit card signup offers in the description of my video (check them out below if you're watching). At a basic 1-cent-per-point valuation, that's $800 to $1,000 back in your pocket. But points can be worth way more – think 2 to 5 cents each – potentially netting you $2,000 to $5,000 in value!
The math adds up quickly, especially if you're already committed to that down payment. It's like getting paid to buy your dream EV.
Before you rush off to max out your card, remember: This is at your own risk. Tesla could shut this down at any moment – it's not officially endorsed, and it might not even be a "loophole" in their eyes. Only buy gift cards for amounts you're sure you'll use, whether for your Tesla purchase, swag, Supercharging, service, wall chargers, or other Tesla goodies. Play it safe!
Speaking of enhancing your Tesla experience, if you're picking up a new Model Y (or any Tesla), it won't come with all-weather floor mats. Trust me, I've tested them all – 3D Maxpider, Tesmanian, and various Amazon options – and my absolute favorite is from 3W Liners.
I've got them in my Model X, Model 3, Model Y, and even the Cybertruck. They're durable, fit perfectly, and keep your interior spotless. As a special for my viewers, use promo code Dennis35 for an exclusive 35% off – that brings a full set under $100! Plus, it supports the channel. Grab yours via the link below.

To wrap things up, a viewer asked about new Model Y incentives. Right now, there aren't any fresh ones on the table. Tesla is already scaling back on Model 3 incentives, and it looks like the Model Y might follow suit as we approach September 30th – the deadline for the $7,500 federal tax credit. If you're in the market, act fast to lock in those savings!
