Hey everyone, DennisCW here! Today, I want to dive into a hot topic that's been buzzing in the Tesla community: Is the Cybertruck a flop? I recently saw a post from Tesla asking for opinions on whether the Cybertruck is a flop or not, and it got me thinking. I’ve got some thoughts to share, especially after driving the Cybertruck for nearly 150 miles in a single day. Spoiler alert: I have mixed feelings. Let’s break it down.
Before we get into the nitty-gritty, I have to say that my personal experience with the Cybertruck has been overwhelmingly positive. It’s comfortable, incredibly easy to drive, and dare I say, even easier to handle than my Model Y. If you haven’t had the chance to test drive a Cybertruck yet, I highly recommend it. Tesla is currently offering two-day demo test drives, and trust me, it’s worth taking one for a spin to form your own opinion.
That said, while my driving experience was great, there are some concerning signs about the Cybertruck’s broader market performance and feature set. Let’s take a look at some of the challenges and feedback I’ve come across.
One of the biggest pieces of news recently is that Tesla cancelled the $16,000 range extender option, which was supposed to push the Cybertruck’s range to around 445 miles. Without this, the Cybertruck’s range falls short compared to competitors in the same price range, many of which are boasting 400-500 miles of range. This could be a dealbreaker for potential buyers who need a truck for long hauls.
There’s a theory floating around, as mentioned by a commenter named Steve, that Tesla might be planning to introduce a massive 200 kWh battery to boost the range to 500 miles. While that sounds exciting, I can’t help but wonder how much that would drive up the cost. Range is critical for a truck, and without a competitive number, the Cybertruck might struggle to sell in large numbers.
Another point of concern is the list of features that the Cybertruck is missing compared to other Tesla models. As Brandon pointed out in a post, there’s no base Autopilot coming to the Cybertruck, no adaptive matrix headlights (a fantastic feature on the new Model Y and other Tesla vehicles), and a more conservative Full Self-Driving (FSD) experience due to the vehicle’s size. While I wouldn’t say the FSD is necessarily worse, it does feel more cautious with lane changes and maneuvers, which makes sense given the Cybertruck’s larger footprint.
These missing features are a bit disappointing, especially for a vehicle that’s supposed to be Tesla’s flagship truck. It raises questions about whether the Cybertruck can keep up with the expectations set by Tesla’s other models.
Despite these challenges, I still believe the Cybertruck is one of the bestselling electric vehicle trucks out there. However, the competition is heating up. With other electric trucks entering the market at similar price points and offering better range, Tesla needs to step up its game to maintain its edge. I’m curious to see if Tesla will introduce deals or incentives by the end of the year to boost Cybertruck sales. What kind of pricing or perks would make you consider buying one? Let me know in the comments!
If I’m being completely honest, I’m a little worried about the Cybertruck’s future. The missing features, cancelled range extender, and growing competition are red flags that could impact its long-term success. On the flip side, I’m hopeful that Tesla has some tricks up its sleeve—like a game-changing battery upgrade or innovative features—that could turn things around.
So, where do I stand? I don’t think the Cybertruck is a flop… yet. It’s an incredible vehicle to drive, and Tesla has a track record of iterating and improving over time. But there are legitimate concerns that need to be addressed to ensure it doesn’t lose ground in an increasingly competitive market.
I want to hear from you! Are you still in the market for a Cybertruck, or have these issues made you reconsider? What kind of pricing, incentives, or features would seal the deal for you? Drop your thoughts in the comments below—I’m genuinely curious to see where the community stands on this.
On a lighter note, if you’ve recently bought a Tesla (or are about to), you might have noticed that it comes with zero accessories. Not even a phone mount! The Tesla Cybertruck is a polarizing vehicle, no doubt about it. While I’ve had an amazing experience driving it, there are valid concerns about its features, range, and market position. I’m not ready to call it a flop, but Tesla has some work to do to keep it competitive. Let’s see what the end of the
