Hey everyone, DennisCW here! Today, I want to dive into the details of the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit for Tesla vehicles. If you’ve been confused about how it works or whether you qualify, don’t worry—I’ve got you covered. Spoiler alert: it’s super easy to get, and I’m going to break it all down for you. Plus, I’ll share some of my top Tesla accessory recommendations at the end. Let’s get started!
The $7,500 Federal Tax Credit is an incentive offered by the U.S. government to encourage the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs). For Tesla buyers, this credit can significantly reduce the cost of purchasing or leasing a qualifying vehicle. Tesla recently updated their website with a dedicated page under Vehicles > Federal Tax Credit that explains everything you need to know about which models qualify and how to claim the credit.
Here’s the biggest takeaway: you must take delivery of your Tesla by September 30th, 2025, to be eligible for this credit under the current terms. That’s just 90 days out from the time of this post, so time is of the essence if you’re considering a purchase or lease!
Good news! Most Tesla models qualify for the $7,500 credit, with a few stipulations:
If you’re leasing, here’s an even bigger win: all Tesla vehicles qualify for the $7,500 credit, regardless of income or MSRP. That’s right—leasing is a fantastic loophole to take advantage of this incentive without worrying about income limits or price caps.
If you’re purchasing a Tesla, there are income limits to qualify for the $7,500 credit:
Here’s a pro tip: the credit is based on your Adjusted Gross Income (AGI), not your total income. This means you can reduce your AGI with deductions like 401(k) contributions. For example, if you’re a single earner making $170,000 but contribute $21,000 to your 401(k), your AGI drops to $149,000, making you eligible for the credit.
As I mentioned earlier, if you lease a Tesla, income limits don’t apply. You automatically qualify for the $7,500 credit, which Tesla applies as a down payment reduction at the point of sale. It’s incredibly straightforward!
If you’re looking at a used Tesla or another EV, there’s also a $4,000 Used Electric Vehicle Tax Credit available. However, this comes with stricter requirements:
This is a great option if you’re on a budget and still want to take advantage of EV incentives.
Tesla makes claiming the $7,500 credit incredibly easy. At the point of sale, they provide a form to fill out, and the credit is applied directly to reduce the vehicle’s price. If you’re leasing, it’s applied as a down payment reduction. No complicated paperwork or waiting for a refund—it’s instant savings!
Since the deadline is fast approaching (September 30th, 2025), I recommend deciding on your Tesla model and deal soon. Keep an eye out for additional incentives that might roll out in the coming weeks as well.
Congrats if you’ve already bought your Tesla or are about to! Now, let’s talk about the second most exciting part: accessories. There are tons of options out there, but I’ve narrowed it down to my top three must-haves:
All-Weather Floor Mats: My number one recommendation! Protect your Tesla’s interior with a good set of floor mats. I’ve bucketed my favorites into three categories:
Phone Mounts: Keep your phone secure and accessible while driving. Check out my recommendations linked in the video description.
Center Console Organizers: Tesla doesn’t come with a built-in center console organizer, so this is a must-have. I use one from Jawa on all our Teslas—link and discount code available below the video.
