Hey everyone, DennisCW here! If you're a Tesla owner or thinking about joining the club, you've probably wondered about insurance costs. In my latest video, I dove into some real-world rates shared by fellow owners, and I wanted to break it down here on the blog. Plus, I'll share a couple of insider tips to help you snag the best deals. Let's get into it!
Insurance rates can vary wildly based on location, coverage, and your driving history, but it's always helpful to see what others are shelling out. Recently, some owners chimed in with their numbers, and they're pretty eye-opening—especially if you're in a high-cost state like me in California.
Take Jebs from Arizona, for example. He's got State Farm covering his vehicles, including home insurance bundled in. Here's the breakdown:
He mentioned a $1,000 deductible, which keeps things affordable. Not bad, right? Then there's Gregor Truck, also in Arizona, paying $142/month for his Cybertruck through Progressive.
I'm honestly a bit jealous! Here in California, we're paying around $180–$220 per vehicle for our Model Y, Cybertruck, and Model X. We do have a cheap Model 3 on liability-only for about $50/month, but overall, it adds up. From polls I've run, most folks across the nation are in the $150–$250/month range. If you're reading this, drop your rates in the comments—what are you paying, and where are you located? Let's compare notes!
If those numbers have you rethinking your policy, here are two solid tips I shared in the video:
Go for Tesla Insurance or Costco Insurance: If it's available in your area, Tesla's own insurance is often the cheapest option because it factors in the car's safety features and data. In California, we loved Costco Insurance (though they've pulled out recently). Shop around and see if you can beat your current rate—let me know in the comments if you've found a better carrier!
Pre-Purchase Insurance Quote Hack: Buying a new Tesla? You won't get the VIN until it's assigned in the app, which makes early quotes tricky. Here's a workaround: Head to Tesla's used inventory, find a similar model (like a 2026 Model Y), borrow that VIN, and plug it into insurance sites for an estimate. It's a quick way to gauge costs before committing.
These tips have saved me (and hopefully you) some serious cash. If you've insured a Model Y recently, share your coverage details and payments below—I'm curious!
Insurance is key, but don't forget physical protection. For paint protection film or ceramic coating, check out our friends at 24K Shine. They're mobile installers who'll come to you, and they even provide a loaner vehicle during service. DennisCW viewers, hit them up in the DMs and ask for the "Dennis deal" for a hookup. They washed our vehicles recently, and the results were spotless!
