Hey everyone, DennisCW here! If you've been following Tesla's latest moves, you might be scratching your head like I was. Are they going off their rocker with this new incentive? Tesla just rolled out something called the "Lux Package" for the Model S and Model X, and it's packed with goodies like Full Self-Driving, free supercharging, and a bunch more. But is it worth the extra $10,000 they're tacking onto the price? Let's dive in and break it down. I'll share my thoughts, crunch the numbers, and speculate on what this could mean for the future – including unsupervised robotaxis. Stick around, and let me know what you think in the comments!
Tesla's Lux Package is essentially a bundle of premium features designed to sweeten the deal for Model S and Model X buyers. Here's the rundown:
On paper, this sounds amazing. Tesla claims it's a $15,000 value, and after doing the math, I agree. Full Self-Driving alone is $8K, supercharging could add up to $4K–$5K over a few years, and the rest fills in the gaps. But here's the catch: To get this package, Tesla bumped the price of all Model S and Model X trims by $10,000. So, you're essentially paying $10K for $15K worth of stuff – a net win if you value these features.
Tesla isn't just throwing freebies around for fun. This feels like a strategic move, especially with the $7,500 federal tax credit set to phase out after September 30th (don't forget to use a referral code like mine in the description if you're ordering!). Once that incentive vanishes, Tesla needs new ways to keep sales humming.
Could this be a test run for broader packages? Imagine something similar for the Model 3 and Model Y – maybe a $5,000 add-on with scaled-down perks. It could replace the tax credit and make ownership more appealing.
But the real intrigue? This might be prepping us for unsupervised Full Self-Driving and robotaxis. Think about it: Including maintenance protections like wheel and tire coverage makes sense for fleet vehicles that rack up miles autonomously. If your Tesla becomes a robotaxi, you'll want it protected from curb rash, potholes, and everyday wear.
Speaking of which, shoutout to Unplugged Performance and their Road Warrior wheels – perfect for fleet efficiency. They've got a curb-rash-resistant design where you can just swap out the rim piece if it gets damaged. If you're interested, check the link below for a promo – using my link gets you a deal!
For Model S and Model X buyers, if you're already in the market for a luxury EV and plan to keep it long-term, absolutely. The lifetime supercharging and FSD alone could justify the cost, especially if Tesla makes FSD standard down the line (like they did with basic Autopilot).
What if they extend this to Model 3/Y? A $5K package with FSD, a couple years of supercharging, and maintenance? Sign me up! It could be a lifeline for owners stuck with older models from 2021–2022 who are underwater on loans. Tesla could offer steep FSD discounts or promos to entice upgrades.
If you're financing a Tesla (or any big purchase), protect your credit first. Bank of America just had a data breach and waited a month to tell customers – that's insane! On average, companies take 277 days to report breaches, leaving your info exposed.
That's why I use Aura, today's sponsor. Aura scans the dark web for your personal data, reduces spam calls, removes your info from shady brokers, and includes $5 million in identity theft insurance – all in one app. Try it free for 14 days at aura.com/denniscw (link in description). The Lux Package is an interesting play by Tesla – part incentive, part future-proofing. It's not for everyone, but it enhances the ownership experience by bundling everything in. What do you think? Is the $10K bump worth it? Would you want a version for Model 3/Y? Drop your thoughts below, and if you're ordering a Tesla, use my referral code for perks!
