Hey everyone, DennisCW here! I’ve got some big news to share that I haven’t told anyone yet—my Tesla Cybertruck is officially going back to Tesla. They’ve accepted our buyback offer, and it’s time to part ways with this beast. But before I hand it over, there’s one last thing I needed to do: remove the wrap. I’ve heard mixed stories about what lies beneath a Cybertruck wrap—some say it’s pristine, others warn of rust or damage. So, I decided to document the entire unwrapping process for you all to see the real condition of the stainless steel underneath. Let’s dive into this unwrapping journey!
First off, I wasn’t entirely sure if I needed to remove the wrap before returning the Cybertruck to Tesla. Some people do, some don’t. But to play it safe, I figured it’s best to return it in its original state. Plus, this gave me the perfect opportunity to address the rumors about potential rust or damage under wraps. I’ve wrapped and unwrapped this Cybertruck twice before with vinyl film, and this time it’s a paint protection film (PPF). I was confident there wouldn’t be any major issues, but I wanted to show you all for the third time just in case this wrap was installed differently.
Removing a wrap from a Cybertruck isn’t as simple as peeling off a sticker. You’ve got to be careful, especially around the edges where the film can be tough to lift without tearing. I started by finding a small area to grab onto and slowly peeled it back. Thankfully, the first section came off smoothly, and the stainless steel underneath looked great—no rust, no major damage. I was optimistic that the rest of the truck would be in similar condition, but I decided to unwrap the entire thing just to be sure.
One thing that made this process much smoother was the weather. The Cybertruck had been sitting in the sun all day, which warmed up the PPF and made it a lot easier to remove. If you’re planning to unwrap your vehicle, I highly recommend doing it on a sunny day or using a heat gun to loosen the film. Trust me, it saves a lot of hassle. Oh, and another tip—wear gloves! The last time I did this without gloves, I completely tore up my hands. This time, I was prepared.
By the time we finished unwrapping the Cybertruck, it was already night. It took nearly two hours to get every piece of PPF off! The next day, with better lighting, I got a good look at the bare stainless steel. And the verdict? No rust whatsoever! There are some minor scratches here and there, but that’s just the nature of owning a Cybertruck—those are bound to happen no matter what. Overall, the truck looks super bright and shiny, almost like new.
One thing I’d forgotten about after having the truck wrapped for so long is how easily fingerprints show up on the stainless steel. Just from opening the doors and touching the surface, you can already see smudges everywhere. It’s a reminder of why wrapping a Cybertruck can be so beneficial—not just for protection, but also to keep it looking clean.
While most of the panels came off without much trouble, the backside panel was a bit of a pain. There’s still some leftover glue in certain areas that I might clean off with a wash. Then again, since I’m turning the truck in this week, I’m not sure if it’s worth the effort. Either way, it’s fascinating to see the Cybertruck back in its stock form after being wrapped for years.
This unwrapping experience was a bit of a nostalgic trip for me. Seeing the Cybertruck back to its raw stainless steel state brought back memories of when I first got it. I’m relieved to confirm that there’s no rust or major damage under the wrap, which should put some of those rumors to rest. If you’re considering wrapping or unwrapping your Cybertruck, just make sure to take your time, use heat to your advantage, and protect your hands!
As I prepare to return the Cybertruck to Tesla, I’m reflecting on all the adventures we’ve had together. It’s been an incredible ride, and I can’t wait to share what’s next on the channel.
