Hey everyone, DennisCW here! If you've just placed an order for a Tesla or dropped that $250 deposit, congratulations—you're on your way to joining the electric revolution. But what happens next? In this blog post, based on my recent video, I'll walk you through the key things to expect over the next few weeks (or months) as you await your new ride. I'll share tips on ordering smarter, navigating the process, handling potential delays, and even some must-have accessories to get you started. Let's dive in!
First things first: If you're about to order, don't jump straight into the main ordering page. Instead, head over to the inventory page on Tesla's site. Why? You might snag a vehicle with a discount or one that's ready for quicker delivery. Pro tip: Adjust the search radius to "all deliverable"—even if it's a 2-3 hour drive away, saving $2,000-$3,000 could make it totally worth it.
Before you do anything, make sure to use a Tesla referral code (like the one I link in my videos). Click it first to load it on your page, then browse inventory. You'll see a green checkmark confirming it's applied. This could score you three months of Full Self-Driving (FSD) for free—or if you're already buying FSD, it supports creators like me.
When picking options like lease, finance, or cash? Don't sweat it at this stage—it's just for info. The key is to hit that deposit button with your credit card or Apple Pay to move forward.
Once your deposit is in, download the Tesla app and get started. The first two steps are straightforward:
After that? Sit tight until you get a VIN number. If you picked an inventory vehicle that's already in transit or on the lot, you might get a VIN quickly and need to jump into financing, trade-ins, delivery location, and more right away.
Tesla's process is super app-centric and hands-off—no aggressive salespeople here. You can message support through the app (they'll respond, though it might take a bit) or call if needed. When pickup day comes, it's often as simple as: "There's your car—accept it in the app and drive off." It's efficient, but expect to handle most of it yourself.
This was inspired by a Reddit post about excitement mixed with delays, credit hits, and communication woes. Tesla keeps it simple, but it's a shift from traditional car buying.
One big heads-up: Delivery dates can change—a lot. If your estimated window is something like July 27th to August 7th, don't be surprised if it shifts. It's like a fun (or frustrating) game checking the app daily. Factors like logistics, demand (especially for the Model Y), and Tesla's push for end-of-month/quarter deliveries play in.
If you're far from factories in California or Texas, order ASAP for better logistics. Closer to the factories? You can be more flexible with colors and configs. Just remember: Patience is key—delays happen, but the wait is worth it!
Thinking of trading in your old car? Skip Tesla—they're known for lowball offers. Instead, check out our partner at givemethevin.com. They aim to maximize your value, all from home. Plus, they're running a $25,000 cash giveaway right now if you sell to them. Worth a look!
Fun fact: Your new Tesla arrives with zero accessories—not even a phone mount. But don't worry, I've got recommendations from our partner Joah. These are items I actually use:
They've got more cool stuff like a wireless game controller, portable air compressor, and even an electric scooter (because why walk from the charger?). Use my promo code (linked in videos) for savings, and get free shipping on orders over $120. Thanks to Joah for supporting the channel!
There you have it—a rundown of what to expect after ordering your Tesla. It's a unique process: efficient, app-driven, but with less hand-holding than traditional dealerships.
