Hey everyone, DennisCW here! If you've been eyeing the latest Tesla models, you might have heard the buzz around the refreshed Model X. But after diving into some real user experiences and comparing it to the Model Y, I have to say: the new Model X feels a bit underwhelming. In fact, I'd recommend skipping it and grabbing a Model Y instead. Let me break it down for you based on what I've seen and heard.
I've come across several posts from folks who've driven both the new Model X and the Model Y, and the consensus is clear—the Model Y is coming out on top. One user, Drake, put it perfectly: "The new Model X is underwhelmed because the new Model Y is overwhelming." I couldn't agree more. The Model Y is fantastic—comfortable, well-built, and just an all-around joy to drive.
Tesla Flex shared their experience after getting behind the wheel of the new Model X: "Going back to my Model Y after driving the new Model X feels refreshing. I don't find myself wanting to order a Model X." Why? It seems the Model X hasn't gotten the same level of upgrades as the Model Y in areas like build quality, reducing rattles, and that killer suspension. As someone who's owned a 2022 Model X and driven the Model Y daily (until my Cybertruck arrived), I can vouch for this. The new Model Y is zippy, handles like a dream, and makes for the perfect daily driver. If you want something even more agile, the Model 3 is a solid tweak, but the Y hits that sweet spot.
One big draw for the Model X is the third row, right? But honestly, it's pretty small and doesn't add that much space. If you truly need a proper third row, I'd suggest looking elsewhere—like a Rivian or the upcoming Lucid Gravity, which has caught my eye lately.
Brandon (aka Tesla Flex) summed it up after test-driving: "It's better than my 2022, but not $10,000 better than a 2024." And get this—the price difference is actually around $12,000, with the Model X starting at about double the cost of a Model Y (think $90K–$100K vs. half that). For that premium, you're not getting steer-by-wire, powered rear seats, or enough upgrades to justify it. Tesla could have done so much more to modernize the S and X lines. At that price point, you're better off buying two Model Ys!
Are you really getting double the value? I don't think so. The Model Y delivers on performance, comfort, and everyday usability without breaking the bank.
I'd love to hear from you! Have you driven both the Model Y and Model X? Which one would you pick, and why? Drop your thoughts in the comments below. If you're in the market for a Tesla deal, stick around—I've got something exciting coming up.
