Hey everyone, DennisCW here! If you're a fan of my YouTube channel, you know I love diving into all things Tesla – from build quality checks to deal breakdowns. In this blog post, I'm recapping one of my recent videos where I joined my friend JP for his very first Tesla pickup: a brand-new Model Y. We headed to a massive Tesla showroom in the LA area (think converted old Sears building – super cool vibe), and I'll walk you through the entire process, including some hiccups, the inspection, and JP's honest thoughts. Let's get into it!
We arrived at the showroom excited for JP's 3 PM appointment. This location is one of the biggest in Los Angeles, packed with Model Ys, a few Model Xs, and even a Model S Plaid. But things started off a bit rocky – Tesla was running behind! By 3:15 PM, the car still wasn't ready, which was unusual since deliveries are typically super efficient. We joked about getting a discount for every minute late, but hey, these things happen when they're busy churning out EVs.
Eventually, we spotted JP's white Model Y with black interior sitting in the lot. Turns out, we were supposed to hunt for it ourselves – no big guided reveal like at some dealerships. A quick text from Tesla confirmed it, and we dove right into the acceptance process via the app.
As always, I recommend a thorough walk-around before hitting that "accept" button. We checked for paint defects, rust, and panel gaps – the usual suspects with new Teslas. This one looked solid: no major issues, and it came prepped with some nice bonuses.
We hopped inside, and I showed JP a quick summer hack: turn on the AC remotely via the app to cool it down before you even get in. The interior felt premium compared to his old ride, and features like Full Self-Driving were already set up in standard mode. Overall, the build quality was on point – a far cry from some older Tesla stories.
JP was gracious enough to chat on camera about his experience. He's upgrading from a 2012 Honda Civic he's had since 2015 – a reliable beast, but after getting married last year, it was time for something more spacious like an SUV. Here's what he had to say:
"Dennis helped me out and he was just such an easy person to talk to, communicate with. He answered all of my questions. He is the expert. I learned just so much just by asking him. There was no question too small or too stupid."
The buying process? Seamless, according to JP:
"It was so easy. It was like going to the store and buying like broccoli. Like it was just so seamless. Went in, test drove it. Everything is just like so easy. Like, you know, you can use your phone for everything. Use the app and like got to download everything like just so seamless."
Why Tesla? The smoothness, quiet ride, tech-forward features like Autopilot and Full Self-Driving sealed the deal. Coming from a gas-powered Civic, JP's thrilled to never hit a gas station again.
JP financed his Model Y at a sweet 3.49% interest rate, putting down $15,000 for a monthly payment of just $500. Not bad at all for a 2024 (wait, he said 2026 – must be a slip, but you get it) Juniper edition!
We even touched on the "spicy" topic: Owning a Tesla in California amid Elon's headlines.
"I'm a little worried after seeing all the stories about people keying Teslas just around the area, but you know, I think we're in a different place now. Elon has been since resigned from Doge. And you know, I think he's trying to save humanity. So, I think it's all right. At the end of the day, the product is good."
Fair point – the EV itself is what matters most.
Congrats to JP on his new Model Y! Watching a first-time Tesla owner light up during the pickup is always a highlight. Despite the slight delay, the process was straightforward, the car checked out great, and the deal was solid. If you're considering a Tesla, remember to inspect thoroughly and leverage the app for everything – it makes ownership a breeze.
