A camouflaged Model Y L just got caught on drone footage right at the Fremont factory tracks.
This Tesla Model Y L leak marks the next phase after all those public California sightings. Tesla is now stress-testing the stretched version on its own grounds before production ramps up.
What the sighting tells us
The vehicle looks like the longer-wheelbase Model Y we've seen before, but now it's inside the factory perimeter. That points to a Model Y L release date likely landing in Q3 or Q4 this year.
Model Y L pricing 2026 outlook
Pricing remains the big unknown. My guess is it lands near the Performance Model Y at around $57,990 to start, maybe even $56,990 to test demand. It will almost certainly cost more than every current Model Y except the Performance variant.
Model Y L vs Model Y differences
For families, the extra space changes everything. Check my full breakdown of Model Y L vs Model Y size, space, and camping differences if you're comparing the two.
Parents waiting on baby seats should also read why you might want to wait for the Model Y L.
Right now Tesla is still running strong deals on the regular Model Y with rates as low as 0–0.99% when you use a referral. Tesla referral — 3 months free FSD + low APR financing gets you the bonus FSD trial too.
Bottom line
Unless you need a car today, waiting makes sense. The Model Y L Fremont testing phase usually means we're only months away from official specs and pricing. When it arrives, expect no big launch discounts at first — just like every other new Tesla variant.
