Hey everyone, DennisCW here! There's been a ton of buzz lately about a potential Model Y L – Tesla's rumored longer version of the Model Y with a third row and seven seats. Everyone's asking: Is this the family hauler we've been waiting for? And more importantly for me – will I actually pull the trigger on one?
Spoiler alert: Probably not. Let me break down why, who this might be perfect for, and my price predictions.
The standard Model Y starts around $45K–$50K. Add the $2,500 for the seven-seater option, and factor in Tesla's tendency to slap on a "new model tax" for fresh launches... we're looking at $55K–$60K easy.
But here's the kicker: With the Model X now firmly in the $100K+ club, Tesla could position the Model Y L as a premium bridge. Think $65K–$70K. Why? Competition like the BMW iX3 (with third-row vibes), Volvo's electric SUVs, and others are hovering around $60K. Tesla loves to lead the pack on pricing.

I recently sold my Model X seven-seater. Guess how many times I used that third row in two years? Once. It was there, but unnecessary for my lifestyle.
Right now, my garage is stacked:
A Model Y L wouldn't add much value for me. Unless I see one in person and the third row looks surprisingly spacious, I'm passing.
This one's a slam dunk for families:
If you're growing your family or need that extra flexibility without the luxury price tag, keep an eye on it.
I'm out for now, but Tesla never ceases to surprise. The Model Y L could shake up the EV family SUV market big time.
