Hey everyone, DennisCW here! If you're leasing an EV like a Rivian R1T or a Tesla, buckle up because today's post dives into some eye-opening lease return charges and shares my top must-have accessories for Tesla owners. Let's break it down.
A viewer (shoutout to Jebs!) shared his story of turning in his R1T lease at the end of January. He was told everything looked good—no more charges coming. But then the bill hit:
Total surprise charges: Over $2,200!
This isn't unique to Rivian. Lease end fees like the disposition fee (standard across Tesla, Rivian, and others) kick in if you don't lease another vehicle from them. Good news? Manufacturers often waive it—and more—if you re-lease. Tesla, for example, has waived fees, given $500–$1,000 credits, and even knocked off a few payments.
Pro services exist to prep your lease return to spec, but selling privately or to specialists like Plug could net you way more.
Now that you've got your Tesla (or are about to), did you know it comes with zero accessories? No phone mount, nothing! Don't sweat it—I've got the essentials from our partner Joa, and I use them all myself.
