The Rivian R1 $500 discount runs only until November 9, giving buyers a short window to save on the R1S or R1T.
This limited-time offer stacks with the Rivian R1 referral discount already floating around, which can add another meaningful cut to the final price. The timing feels deliberate because Rivian is shifting its autonomy event to Palo Alto on December 9 and calling it Rivian AI Day 2026. The company plans to show its full integrated self-driving stack for the first time.
Early access to the new system has already started rolling out to a small group. I applied immediately and hope to test it firsthand. The real test will come with the Rivian R2 FSD test once those vehicles hit the roads. https://www.denniscw.com/blog/rivian-r2-vs-model-y already covered how the R2 drives in daily use, but autonomy performance will decide whether it stays in the garage long-term.
For Tesla owners watching the space, this Rivian autonomy update matters. It shows another player moving past basic driver assistance toward something closer to unsupervised operation. The December event should reveal whether Rivian’s hardware and software approach can close the gap with Tesla FSD.
Right now the R2 feels like the smarter play if you want to monitor how the new autonomy features mature without jumping into a full-size R1. The $500 Rivian R1 $500 discount makes the larger trucks tempting, yet the R2 platform will likely get the software first.
Bottom line: lock in the Rivian R1 $500 discount before November 9 if you need the truck size today, or wait and watch the December Rivian AI Day 2026 reveal to see how the autonomy story actually plays out. https://www.denniscw.com/blog/rivian-autonomy-plus-vs-tesla-fsd-comparison dives deeper into the software differences once we have more data from the event.
