Hey everyone, DennisCW here! If you’ve been following my recent adventures, you know I took the Tesla Model Y on an epic road trip, and one piece of tech truly transformed the experience: the Starlink Mini. In that video, I shared how I initially rigged it up with some basic clamps from eBay to the rear window. But today, I’m excited to unbox and review a much sturdier and sleeker solution—a heavy-duty Starlink mount sent over by the awesome team at Virtuous Vans. Let’s dive into why this mount is a total upgrade and how it’s perfect for road trippers, van lifers, and Tesla owners alike.
First off, a huge shoutout to Virtuous Vans for reaching out and sending me this kit to test out. If you’re not familiar, they specialize in van mounts and accessories, catering to the nomadic and off-road community. The packaging is simple but effective, and right out of the box, I could tell this mount is built to last. It’s heavy-duty—way more robust than my makeshift eBay setup.
Inside the kit, you’ll find a variety of mounting options, including what I initially thought were suction cups but turned out to be powerful magnets (more on that later). There’s also a protective casing for the Starlink Mini, some bolts, a mini USB supply, and side pieces to assemble everything securely. The design prioritizes durability and weatherproofing, which is critical if you’re mounting something like this on the exterior of your vehicle during unpredictable weather.
Putting this mount together was straightforward, though it did take a bit of time to disassemble the pieces, fit the Starlink Mini inside, and bolt everything back up. The protective casing fits the Starlink Mini like a glove—think of it as a massive iPhone case for your satellite dish. I was always a bit worried about damaging the dish when tossing it around, but this casing ensures it’s safe from drops or harsh conditions.
One small hiccup was figuring out how to manage the cable. It kind of slinks through an opening in the casing, so you’ll need to route it properly to avoid it dangling. Once assembled, though, the whole unit feels incredibly solid. Unlike my old setup, which jiggled around and felt unstable, this mount locks everything in place as a single, secure unit.
What I love about this Virtuous Vans mount is the versatility. It comes with both magnet and suction cup options, giving you flexibility on where and how to attach it. I tested the magnets first, and wow, they are strong. I stuck it to the side of my Tesla Model Y, and it was nearly impossible to pull off without serious effort. I even played around with mounting it on different parts of the car. The sides and certain aluminum panels were magnetic, but the hood and trunk weren’t, so keep that in mind depending on your vehicle.
I’m especially excited to use this with my Cybertruck in the future. The magnets will likely grip perfectly to its stainless steel body, ensuring the mount stays put no matter where I’m driving. For the Model Y, though, I also tested the suction cups, which are equally impressive. They have a mechanism to release air and create a super-tight seal, complete with a protective cap to keep the suction area in good condition. Whether you’re sticking it to the inside of the trunk or on the roof, these suction cups inspire a lot of confidence.
The kit also includes a cigarette lighter power source (12V), which is a nice touch for easy setup. The cables and connectors look heavy-duty and weather-sealed, so I’m not too worried about rain or dust getting in during off-road adventures. Routing the cable to the power source is the next step, and while I didn’t finalize that in the video, it’s clear this mount is designed to handle the elements and keep your Starlink Mini operational no matter the conditions.
If you’re someone who takes their Starlink Mini on the road—whether for off-roading, camping, or long Tesla road trips—this mount from Virtuous Vans is a must-have. It’s a massive upgrade from flimsy DIY solutions, offering durability, protection, and multiple mounting options. I can see this being especially useful for van lifers or anyone with a rugged vehicle like the Cybertruck. It keeps your Starlink secure and functional, so you can stay connected even in the middle of nowhere.
I’m super impressed with this Starlink Mini mount, and I can’t wait to put it through its paces on future trips. A huge thanks again to Virtuous Vans for sending this over. If you’re interested in grabbing one for yourself, I’ve linked it below so you can check it out. Have you used a Starlink Mini on your adventures? Let me know in the comments how you’ve mounted yours or if you’ve got any other road trip tech tips!
Until next time, keep exploring, and I’ll see you in the next video!
