Hey everyone, DennisCW here! If you’ve recently booked a 48-hour test drive with Tesla, you might want to double-check your reservation. Tesla has announced some significant changes to their test drive policy in the US, and I’m here to break it all down for you. Plus, I’ve got updates on Model Y inventory, Cybertruck stock, cool Tesla accessories, and more. Let’s dive in!
Tesla has officially restricted their popular 48-hour test drives to one per person in the US. If you’ve made multiple reservations, expect any additional bookings to be canceled. Honestly, this restriction should’ve been in place from the start to prevent abuse of the system. I’ve also received DMs from some of you reporting that certain locations are canceling test drives due to limited inventory. This seems to be especially true for higher-end models like the Cybertruck, Model S, and Model X. On the other hand, with plenty of Model Ys in stock (especially the all-wheel drive variants), Tesla likely won’t have issues fulfilling test drives for those.
If your test drive has been canceled or you’re worried about inventory, let me know in the comments! I’d love to hear your experiences.
Here’s something interesting I spotted on Tesla’s website earlier today: they’ve added a new inventory filter for the Model Y Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive. Does this mean we’re about to see these models hit the lots? I’m skeptical. The “Build Your Own” pages still show a 3-5 week delivery timeline, so I think this filter is more of a formality for now. That said, I’m curious if anyone out there with a rear-wheel drive Model Y on order has received a VIN or a firm delivery date. If you have, drop a comment or DM me—especially if you’re in the California/Los Angeles area. I truly believe the rear-wheel drive Model Y could be the best value Tesla in the future, though right now, the all-wheel drive’s 1.99% financing deal is hard to beat.
In other Model Y news, I came across a video showcasing a Model Y cooler, possibly debuted in the Korean market. It’s a neat idea, but it seems to be just a basic bucket with no powered cooling functionality. I’m hopeful Tesla or a third party will eventually release a powered cooler that utilizes the trunk or side storage areas. Imagine how convenient that would be on road trips! What do you think—would you buy a Tesla-branded cooler if it was powered? Let me know!
If you’re about to take delivery of your Tesla Model Y, you’ll want to protect that beautiful paint job. That’s where my friends at Tesbros come in. They’ve just released a Model Y Juniper Paint Protection Film (PPF) DIY Kit, which can save you thousands compared to professional installation (which can cost $4,000-$6,000 or more). Tesbros offers four options—Essentials, Partial, Front, and Full Coverage—so you can choose what fits your budget and needs. Check out the link below and use promo code Dennis to save even more. Trust me, it’s worth it!
Quick announcement: I’ll be at EVF Fest 2025 this Saturday from 12:00 to 4:00 PM. I initially thought it was a morning event, but nope, it’s midday! I’ll be hanging out, possibly with Unplugged Performance (still finalizing some details with rims and more). If you’re in the area, come say hi—I’d love to meet you and chat about all things Tesla. It’s going to be an awesome event!
Switching gears, let’s talk about the Cybertruck. Inventory for this futuristic beast is stacking up across the US. A recent article highlighted a Detroit suburb parking lot filled with Cybertrucks, and I’ve seen similar sights at Tesla inventory lots near me. In fact, Cybertruck is currently Tesla’s most overstocked vehicle, followed by Model X, Model S, Model Y (with over 1,000 units), and Model 3. I’m holding out for a better Cybertruck deal, and I’m guessing many of you are too. Are you waiting for a price drop or better incentives? Let me know in the comments.

In a surprising update, Elon Musk has announced his departure as a special government employee for the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). In his statement, he thanked President Donald Trump for the opportunity and noted that the DOGE mission will only strengthen over time. With Elon stepping away from this role, I anticipate we’ll see more focus on Tesla and his other companies in the near future. This could mean new incentives, marketing strategies, and more. What do you think this shift means for Tesla? Drop your thoughts below!
Did you know that Teslas come with zero accessories? Not even a phone mount! If you’re a new or soon-to-be Tesla owner, I’ve got you covered with some must-haves from my partners at Jowua. Here are a few essentials I personally use:
Jowua also offers cool extras like a wireless game controller, a portable air compressor for road trips, and even an electric scooter (because why walk from a Supercharger?). Use my promo code below to save money and get free shipping on orders over $120. These accessories are top-notch, and your support helps the channel too!
Lastly, thanks to a viewer (shoutout to Paper Oyster!) for bringing this up: using credit cards for Tesla down payments. Tesla’s website confirms it’s possible, though the exact limit isn’t clear. You can also purchase up to $2,000 in Tesla gift cards per transaction with a credit card, which could be applied toward a purchase. This is a fantastic way to maximize credit card points or sign-up bonuses. If you’re interested, I’ve included a referral link for the Chase Sapphire Reserve below—it’s a great card for earning points on big purchases like a Tesla. Have you tried this method? Let me know your experience!

Thanks for reading, and I’ll see you in the next post—or at EVF Fest if you’re there this Saturday!
