Hey everyone, DennisCW here! Today, we’re tackling a burning question that’s on the minds of many Tesla fans and potential buyers: Will Tesla drop the price of the Cybertruck? When the Cybertruck was first unveiled, the starting price was a jaw-dropping $39,900 for the rear-wheel-drive model. If that price were still around today, I bet a lot of you would be seriously considering snapping one up. But with current prices much higher, and economic conditions being what they are, many are wondering if a dramatic price reduction is on the horizon. Let’s break it down and see what the future might hold for Cybertruck pricing.
To understand where Cybertruck prices might go, it’s helpful to look at Tesla’s past pricing strategies. A few years ago, Tesla was notorious for changing prices almost constantly. Take the Model Y, for example. Back in April or May of 2022, the Model Y Performance topped out at a whopping $70,000, and the Long Range All-Wheel Drive was priced at $66,000 in January 2023. Then, seemingly overnight, Tesla slashed the price by $13,000, bringing the Long Range down to $53,000. Since then, prices have continued to trend downward.
However, Tesla has shifted its strategy recently. Instead of altering the MSRP (Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price), they’re now focusing on inventory discounts. You’ve probably seen deals like $8,000, $10,000, or even $12,000 off on Cybertrucks. These discounts are moving inventory fast—especially when you find an all-wheel-drive Cybertruck discounted by $8,000 that’s available for lease. These units don’t stick around long, which could be a signal to Tesla about where pricing needs to land.
Let’s talk numbers. As of now, Cybertruck pricing starts at:
These prices are steep, especially when you consider the current economic climate. Plus, the Cybertruck is currently Tesla’s highest inventory vehicle, meaning there are a lot of units sitting around waiting for buyers. When inventory piles up like this, it often signals that a price adjustment or increased incentives might be coming to boost demand.
If Tesla were to drop prices by, say, $10,000 to $15,000 across the board, we could see something like:
A move like this could significantly increase demand, much like the dramatic Model Y price cut did in 2023. Speaking of which, a similar price reduction of $11,000 or more on the Cybertruck isn’t out of the question, given Tesla’s history.
So, the big question remains: When will Tesla lower Cybertruck prices? My personal take is that we might see some movement by the end of the year—perhaps in Q3 or Q4 of 2023. Tesla could either introduce a significant price cut or offer more substantial incentives to clear out inventory. Alternatively, they might scale back production to match demand more closely.
But I want to hear from you! When do you think Tesla will make a move on Cybertruck pricing? Are you waiting for a price drop to pull the trigger on a purchase? Drop your thoughts in the comments below—I’m curious to see what the community thinks!
While we’re on the topic of Tesla, let’s talk about something every Tesla owner needs to know: your shiny new Tesla comes with zero accessories. Not even a phone mount! The Cybertruck’s current pricing has sparked a lot of debate, and with inventory piling up, it’s reasonable to expect some kind of price adjustment or enhanced discounts in the near future. Whether it’s a direct MSRP cut or more inventory deals, Tesla has the tools to make the Cybertruck more accessible to buyers. I’m betting we’ll see something by the end of 2023, but I’d love to hear your predictions.
