Tesla has pulled the plug on custom orders for two of its flagship models: the Model S and Model X. These vehicles have been fan favorites for years, but now you can no longer configure them to your exact specs. It's the end of an era, as Elon Musk himself put it. Let's break down what this means for potential buyers, current owners, and the market.
Starting now, the only way to snag a new Model S or Model X is from Tesla's existing inventory. Production of custom orders has ceased, but there's good news: deep discounts are still available on lingering stock.
There might be a short-term hype spike driving demand, but don't expect miracles on resale value. Like most luxury EVs in this price range, these will depreciate heavily over time.
If you're eyeing one, act fast – especially for rare colors like the special edition blue. In our area, only two Model S and two Model X in that color are left in inventory. Used options? Slim pickings.
Tesla is sweetening the pot with 3.99% financing on these inventory models. However, Model S and X are no longer eligible for referrals.
Pro tip: For Model 3 or Y orders, use a referral link (check the one in the video description) to score up to 3 months of Full Self-Driving (FSD) for free.
Inventory for Model 3 and Y is ramping up, with 0% financing still on the table. Great timing if you're shopping mass-market Teslas.
Elon Musk shared a heartfelt note: "We will have an official ceremony to mark the ending of an era. I love those cars. This was me at production 14 years ago." It's officially discontinued – inventory is your only shot at new ones.
Another big change: FSD transfers from older vehicles to new ones are discontinued. We saw this coming, but if you locked in an order before March 31st with a delivery pushed to April, it might still work. Drop a comment if you've tested this!
Analyst Troy Teslike predicts 375,000 Q1 deliveries:
| Model | Estimated Deliveries | |----------------|----------------------| | Model 3/Y | 359,000 | | Model S/X + Cybertruck | 15,000+ |
Expect a strong end-of-quarter push on S/X and Cybertrucks to clear inventory. Official numbers drop tomorrow – stay tuned!
If you've been in a car accident in the last 3-5 years (even if repaired), your vehicle's value has likely diminished. File a diminished value claim against the at-fault insurance for $2,000 to $20,000. Check out True Claims for a free value report and lawyer connections.
New Teslas come with zero accessories – not even a phone mount! Stock up on must-haves from our partner Jowua (use promo code in description for savings + free shipping over $120):
I use these daily – they support the channel too. Thanks, Jowua!
