Tesla just made its referral program hand out a free full self-driving offer to both new buyers and current owners.
The company quietly replaced the old system with the new Tesla FSD referral program. Instead of focusing only on vehicle sales, the update pushes the free full self-driving offer hard. Existing owners who use the link get one month of FSD at no cost. New buyers get the same trial when they order through a referral.
Why the change matters
Tesla no longer needs referrals to move cars. Demand is so strong that some Model 3 and Model Y orders now show Tesla 2027 delivery delays. The focus has shifted to getting more people trying FSD so they experience what the latest version can actually do.
One standout clip shows a Tesla in FSD mode executing a Tesla FSD highway U-turn on a closed Connecticut highway. The car watched other vehicles turning around and followed the pattern without intervention. Moments like that explain why Tesla wants owners testing the software right now.
What it means for Tesla owners
If you already own a Tesla, the Tesla free FSD referral deal lets you add one month of supervised FSD for free. Share the same link with friends or family and they get the trial too. The program no longer ties the benefit only to new purchases, which opens the door for every owner.
Tesla referral — 3 months free FSD + low APR financing still works for new orders and pairs well with the updated one-month trial.
Free Tesla Robotaxi rides and other notes
Tesla is also handing out Tesla Robotaxi rides in select markets. First rides are free in certain cities, a clear push to get more people behind the wheel of the Cybercab experience.
Delivery timelines stretching into 2027 make the software trial even more relevant. Owners waiting that long can at least test FSD today instead of sitting on the sidelines.
Bottom line
The Tesla free FSD referral deal is the clearest signal yet that Tesla wants widespread adoption of the software. Whether you are ordering a new car or already driving one, the window to try a month free is open right now.
