Hey everyone, DennisCW here! If you're a Tesla owner or planning to become one, you might be wondering about the cost of insurance for your electric ride. I know a lot of you are getting quotes and might be worried about the numbers you're seeing. In today’s post, I’m going to break down why Tesla insurance can be pricey and share two awesome options to help you save some money. Plus, I’ll throw in some tips on protecting your Tesla and must-have accessories. Let’s dive in!
I recently had a chat with Brian, a member of our Patreon group, who had tons of questions about owning a Tesla. He just picked up a Model 3 Performance and was concerned about insurance costs. I shared some advice with him, and I’m thrilled to report that he saved a significant amount on his premiums! Unfortunately, for those of us in California, Costco Insurance (now known as Costco Connect) is no longer available. However, I was lucky enough to secure a policy with them before they left, and it’s been a game-changer.
For those outside California, I strongly recommend checking out Costco Connect Insurance. Brian did, and he’s now paying just $148 a month for his Model 3 Performance, which includes free roadside assistance. That’s an incredible deal! To give you a frame of reference, my wife and I pay between $180 to $190 per vehicle here in California with Costco Insurance. Brian even thanked me for the recommendation, saying it saved him $100 a month. So, if Costco Connect is available in your state, definitely get a quote and see if it works for you.

If Costco Connect isn’t available in your area, my second recommendation is Tesla Insurance. It’s tailored specifically for Tesla vehicles and is offered in several states. Tesla Insurance often uses real-time driving data (if you opt-in) to adjust your premiums based on your driving habits, which could save you money if you’re a safe driver. After these two options, you can always explore more traditional providers like Progressive or State Farm, but I’d start with Costco Connect and Tesla Insurance to see if you can snag a lower monthly payment.
Here’s the reality: insurance costs for all vehicles, including Teslas, have gone up in recent years. On average, for good coverage on a Tesla, you’re likely looking at $150 to $250 a month, depending on your location, driving record, and the specific model you own. Teslas can be more expensive to insure due to their high repair costs and advanced technology, but with the right provider, you can keep those costs manageable. Let me know in the comments what you’re paying for insurance and where you’re located—I’m curious to see the range!
While we’re on the topic of protecting your investment, let’s talk about keeping your Tesla looking pristine. Insurance covers accidents, but what about everyday wear and tear like rock chips or scratches? That’s where our friends at Tesbros come in. They’ve developed an amazing DIY Paint Protection Film (PPF) kit specifically for Tesla vehicles. They offer four different packages, from essentials to full-vehicle coverage, allowing you to save thousands by applying the film yourself.

Now that you’ve got your Tesla (or are about to), did you know it comes with zero accessories? Not even a phone mount! Don’t worry, though—I’ve got you covered with some must-haves every Tesla owner should consider. I’ve partnered with Joah, an awesome brand that offers high-quality Tesla accessories. Here are a few of my favorites:
Joah doesn’t stop at the basics. They’ve also got cool extras like a wireless game controller that fits perfectly in the glove box, a portable air compressor for peace of mind on long trips, and even an electric scooter—because why walk from a Supercharger station when you can ride?

Owning a Tesla is an incredible experience, but the costs of insurance and maintenance can add up if you’re not careful. By exploring options like Costco Connect and Tesla Insurance, you can potentially save hundreds on your premiums. Don’t forget to protect your vehicle with solutions like Tesbros’ PPF kits and enhance your driving experience with accessories from Joah.
