Hey everyone, DennisCW here! If you've been eagerly awaiting updates on the Tesla Model 3, we've got some exciting leaks straight from certification documents in Europe. This isn't a full overhaul, but more of a mid-cycle refresh with some highly requested features. I've been predicting a few of these for a while, so let's dive into what's new, how it compares to the current lineup, and when we might see it in the US.
The standout addition is the front bumper camera. This has been spotted in certification approvals, and it's a game-changer for the Model 3, which is currently the only Tesla without one. We've already seen placeholders for it on Model 3 Performance variants, so it's likely coming stateside soon. This camera will enhance Autopilot and Full Self-Driving capabilities by providing better forward visibility, especially in tight spots or for parking.
Another big change? The return of the turn signal stalk on the left side of the steering wheel. Tesla had shifted to steering wheel controls in recent models, which I personally prefer—it's intuitive, like swiping up or down. But based on user feedback, Tesla is bringing back the traditional stalk to make the car more accessible for those used to conventional vehicles. It's a smart move to broaden appeal, even if it's not my favorite.
Inside, the cabin doesn't look drastically different, but these tweaks suggest Tesla is listening to owners. This refreshed Model 3 is already available in China, so Europe (and hopefully the US) shouldn't be far behind.
While we're on the topic, the leak also confirms that Giga Berlin-built Model Y Long Range All-Wheel Drive models will get an upgraded 82 kWh LG 5M battery. This could mean better range and efficiency—exciting stuff for European buyers. Speaking of Model Y, Performance variants are now in full delivery mode across Europe, with truckloads hitting the roads. I've seen some delivery POV videos, and it's got me hyped for more reviews. Fingers crossed for a US announcement soon; Tesla's been tight-lipped about it here.
Timing is everything, especially with the $7,500 federal EV tax credit ending on September 30th. That's just two weeks away as of this post! I don't think Tesla will roll out the refresh before then—it could disrupt end-of-quarter deliveries. If word got out that new models have the front camera, buyers might delay orders, hurting sales numbers.
If you're in the market now, check out Tesla's current offers. The Model 3 Rear-Wheel Drive leases for $299/month, bumping to $349 for All-Wheel Drive (Performance stays the same). Model Y starts at $399 for Rear-Wheel Drive and $479 for Long Range. These are solid deals while they last.
Pro tip: Use a Tesla referral code (like mine in the links below) to snag three months of Full Self-Driving or $250 off your order. It's a win-win and helps support the channel—thanks to everyone who's used it!
If you're upgrading to a Tesla, don't forget to maximize your trade-in value. A viewer, E Trucks OC, shared how GiveMeTheVin offered $2,500 more than Tesla for their 2022 Model Y. It's quick, easy, and done from home—definitely worth checking out via the link below.
Is the front camera a deal-breaker? For most, probably not. Retrofits might be possible, and third-party options already exist for models like the Model S. If you've been holding off on a Model 3, I'd say go for it now to lock in the tax credit. What do you think? Drop your thoughts in the comments—would this refresh sway your purchase?
One last thing: Before financing your Tesla, protect your credit. Recent breaches like Bank of America's (which they didn't report for a month!) highlight how vulnerable our data is. Companies often wait 277 days to notify— that's nine months of exposure!
That's why I use Aura, today's sponsor. It scans the dark web for your info (social, bank details, etc.) and alerts you instantly. Plus, it reduces spam calls, removes your data from broker sites, and includes $5 million in identity theft insurance—all in one app.
