Hey everyone, DennisCW here! I'm beyond excited to share the latest upgrade to my Tesla Model Y. In this blog post, we're diving into my recent trip to Unplugged Performance, my go-to Tesla performance shop, where we swapped out the UP05 rims for a much crazier setup. If you're a Tesla enthusiast or just love a good car mod story, buckle up because this one’s for you!
I started the day by dropping off my new Tesla Model Y at Unplugged Performance. The goal? To switch out the satin black UP05 rims for something more aggressive. Now that my Model Y is wrapped in a striking red, I wanted to experiment with a fresh rim setup to complement the vibrant color. Plus, who doesn’t love a little change-up to keep things exciting?
Driving by SpaceX on the way, I couldn’t resist showing off the iconic rocket in the background. Once at Unplugged Performance, I was immediately greeted by some jaw-dropping builds, including a fully decked-out Cybertruck. This beast had a matte black finish, tinted tail lights, wild spiked rims, side rockers, a custom front bumper, a light bar, and rear sails. Talk about a head-turner! They also had another Model Y on display, showcasing their incredible craftsmanship. I couldn’t wait to see what they had in store for mine.
Fast forward to the next day, and I was back at Unplugged Performance to pick up my Model Y. The shop was buzzing with cool cars, including a stunning red Tesla Model 3 and a nostalgic GTR that reminded me of my old ride. But my eyes were on my Model Y, parked in the corner, ready for its grand reveal.
And let me tell you, the result blew me away! We went with the 21-inch UP05 Titanium Satin rims paired with Yokohama Advent Sport V107 tires (275/35s). These are hands-down the biggest rims I’ve seen on a new Juniper Tesla Model Y, and with the thin tire profile, the look is absolutely insane. The titanium satin finish pops against the red wrap, giving the car a sleek, aggressive vibe. I’m already thinking this setup screams for a drop to complete the stance. What do you think?
Before showing off the final look, I wanted to test out the ride quality. I was a bit worried about how these massive rims and thinner tires would feel on the road. After driving it for the first time, I noticed the steering felt a tad heavier—possibly due to the larger rim size or maybe because I’d been driving the Cybertruck all weekend. However, the ride comfort was surprisingly unchanged. It felt smooth, even with the bigger setup.
On the highway at 70 to 80 mph, the Model Y truly shined. The ride was super smooth and quiet, just as you’d expect from a Tesla, regardless of rim size. I’m thrilled with how it handles, and I can’t wait to do a proper photoshoot to capture this killer look.
One small note: with the car charged to 88%, I did notice a slight difference in regenerative braking, but nothing too significant. Overall, I’m loving this upgrade!
This transformation has taken my Tesla Model Y to the next level. The combination of the red wrap and the 21-inch titanium satin rims gives it a bold, unique style that stands out on the road. I’m curious to hear your thoughts—do you love this setup? Should I lower the car for an even sportier look? Drop your opinions in the comments below!
