If you picked up your Tesla Model Y in the past year like we did (ours is the Performance model from December), you might have the factory gray headliner. Tesla has since switched to black, but swapping it officially costs a whopping $2,500. Today, we're fixing that mismatch on our black Model Y with white interior at Starlight Auto in Los Angeles. We're not just going black—we're upgrading to a premium suede Alcantara-style headliner, including the sun visors, for a luxurious, complete look. Shoutout to Jay for hooking us up with the "Dennis deal"—check the details below!

Take one look at our ride in the sun: pristine white seats popping against the black dash and trim, but that gray headliner? It's screaming for attention in all the wrong ways. It clashes with everything—the black accents, the glass roof, you name it. We've seen newer Model Ys with black headliners, and ours looked dated by comparison. Time for a change.
We arrived at Starlight Auto, specialists in starry ceilings and custom interiors, ready to document the entire transformation. Jay, a Tesla pro who's done hundreds of Model 3s and Ys, walked us through it:
"I've done so many Teslas, I could do it in my sleep," Jay quipped.
ASMR fans, rejoice: Crack, crack—pure satisfaction.

Bonus: Suede adds sound deadening (ride noticeably quieter) and is stain-resistant—spray cleaner and wipe. Perfect for spills or kids.
Jay showed a paint option, but don't. It flakes over time, especially near mirrors. Wrapping is superior and requires the same disassembly anyway.
All pieces wrapped: headliner, side trims (even painted seat belt areas for contrast), visors. Back in the Model Y, and...

Mind-blowing. Plush, cushy feel with foam backing—better than OEM black. Seamless transition from black dash to suede ceiling to glass roof. Sun visors match perfectly. In daylight? Even outsiders notice the upgrade.
Driving away, it's quieter immediately. Full day's work (10 AM to 5 PM), but one-day turnaround. Jay's detail obsession—every trim off the car, table-wrapped—sets it apart from shortcuts.
LA-area Tesla owners: Hit up Jay at Starlight Auto (link in description). Mention the Dennis deal for the hookup. Stars? That's a 2-day job.
