Hey everyone, DennisCW here! If you've been following along with our Tesla Model Y build, you know we just wrapped up a killer upgrade with a custom all-black headliner from Starlet Auto in Brea, California. Shoutout to Jeremiah there—he hooked us up with the "Dennis deal" for an amazing price. But here's the thing: our old gray sun shade from Joah was clashing big time with the sleek new black roof.
No worries, though—we grabbed the black Joah Eclipse sun shade to complete the look. This isn't just about aesthetics; it's a game-changer for blocking out California's brutal sun, UV rays, and excess heat. Even with sunglasses and tint, sometimes the glare and top-down heat get overwhelming (maybe I'm just getting old?). Let's dive into the unboxing, super-easy install, and why this is a must-have mod.
I used to skip sun shades, but after testing this, I'm a total convert. It's a small investment for huge comfort gains, especially in sunny SoCal summers.
The kit arrives tightly packed with everything you need:

This was a breeze—probably 10 minutes once you're familiar. Here's how:
Prep the Clips: Position clips around the roof edges first. Use the tool to create a small gap in the headliner and slide them in. Annoying at first, but the tool makes it painless.
Slide on the Shades: Front piece first, then rear. They snap right into the clips. Adjust as needed—the clips slide for perfect support (we added extras in the middle and front for zero sag).
Test Fit: Ensure full coverage from front to back. Boom—blacked-out roof achieved!

Pro Tip: If your headliner's black like ours, go black shade. It elevates the entire interior vibe.
Don't sleep on this—OEM sun shades run $2,200 just for parts, plus $500+ install. Joah's kit? Way cheaper, DIY-friendly, and just as effective. Pair it with Starlet Auto's custom work for the win.
Pulling out of the garage, the Model Y looks stealthier than ever—no dangling shades cluttering the cabin. Thanks to Joah for the top-tier design (link in video description) and Starlet Auto for the headliner magic.
