Hey everyone, DennisCW here! I’m super excited to share with you a recent upgrade I made to my Tesla Model Y that I genuinely wish came standard with the car. If you’ve been following my channel, you know I’m all about enhancing functionality and style in my EVs. Today, I’m diving into the installation of a powered motorized frunk lift—a game-changer for usability. Let’s get into it!
If you own a Tesla Model Y, you probably know that the front trunk (or frunk) is a handy storage space, but it’s a bit of a hassle to use. Unlike the Cybertruck, which comes with a powered frunk, the Model Y requires you to manually open and close it by pushing down on the hood. Honestly, I’ve avoided using it for this very reason. But when I discovered this motorized frunk lift accessory, I knew I had to give it a shot. It promises to make the frunk as convenient as the Cybertruck’s with just the press of a button.
I teamed up with Hano (Honcho), a company based in Santa Ana, OC area, that specializes in Tesla mods and installations. They’ve just opened a new service and installation center, and they offer a range of products to enhance your Tesla experience. I decided to head over to their showroom to get the motorized frunk lift installed and document the entire process for you guys.
After dropping off my Model Y at Hano’s center, the team got to work. The installation was surprisingly quick—taking only about 30 to 45 minutes! While I was there, I couldn’t resist adding a little extra flair to my ride. I spotted some sleek matte carbon fiber mirror caps that matched the vibe of my Cybertruck, so I decided to have those installed as well. These subtle additions really complete the look of the Model Y.
Unfortunately, I had to step out for a bit during the process, but when I returned, the transformation was complete. Let me tell you, seeing the frunk open and close with just a tap on the Tesla app was pure magic.
The motorized frunk lift integrates seamlessly with the Tesla app. All you need to do is hit the frunk button on the app, and it pops open effortlessly. Hit it again, and it closes with a satisfying confirmation beep. This mod makes the frunk so much more usable—I no longer have to mess around with manually closing it. It’s honestly a perfect upgrade for anyone who wants to make the most out of their Model Y’s storage space.
While the frunk lift was the star of the show, I’m also thrilled with the carbon fiber mirror caps. They add a subtle, stylish touch to the Model Y, and I’m a huge fan of the matte finish. It’s a small detail, but it ties the whole look together. Big thanks to Hano for installing these on the spot!
So, how much did this upgrade set me back? The labor cost for installing the motorized frunk lift was $150, which I think is totally worth it for the convenience. If you’re in the OC area, I highly recommend hitting up Hano for this mod. I’ll include links to their showroom and the product below if you’re interested in getting one for your Model Y (including the Juniper kit for the new Model Y).
Initially, I was skeptical about the usefulness of a motorized frunk, but after experiencing it on the Cybertruck, my perspective shifted. Now, with this upgrade on my Model Y, I’m completely sold. The integration with the Tesla app and the ease of use make it a must-have for frequent frunk users.
What do you think about this upgrade? Are you considering a motorized frunk lift for your Tesla Model Y, or do you have other mods in mind? Drop your questions and comments below—I’d love to hear from you! Also, don’t forget to check out the links to Hano’s products and services if you’re curious.
Thanks for reading, and I’ll catch you in the next post. Until then, keep modding and driving electric!
