Hey everyone, DennisCW here! Welcome back to another exciting update on all things Tesla. Today, I’m thrilled to dive into the first spotting of the Tesla Model Y Performance, recently seen testing on the iconic Nürburgring track in Germany. We’ve got some juicy details to unpack about the differences between the standard Model Y and this high-performance variant. Plus, I’ll touch on some other Tesla news and share some must-have accessories for your Tesla. Let’s get started!
Thanks to CarScoops, we’ve got our hands on some exclusive shots of the Tesla Model Y Performance tearing up the Nürburgring. This is expected to be the flagship, high-performance “Halo” version of the Model Y lineup. So, what sets it apart from the standard Model Y? Here are the key differences we’ve spotted:
Unfortunately, the front and rear bumpers don’t seem drastically different under the camouflage. I was hoping for more aggressive styling, but Tesla might be hiding some surprises for the final reveal. What do you think? Are these changes enough to make the Performance model stand out? Let me know in the comments!
The big question is, when will we see the Model Y Performance hit the market? Speculation points to a potential release as early as next month or within the next quarter (June or July). Tesla could use this as an excitement piece to draw more attention to the Model Y lineup. However, don’t expect immediate deals or discounts. Just like the Model Y Rear-Wheel Drive, it’ll take time for inventory to ramp up—possibly Q3 or Q4 of this year—before we see any promotions.
Pricing-wise, some are guessing it could land around $55,000 or slightly higher, potentially matching the Launch Edition of other models. However, keep in mind that features like Full Self-Driving (FSD) could add value (and cost) to the package. For those waiting for the ultimate performance SUV, this could be worth the wait—but it won’t come cheap!
Switching gears, let’s talk about some broader Tesla news. Analyst Troy Teslike is projecting a 15% year-over-year drop in Tesla sales for Q2, estimating deliveries between 350,000 to 395,000 units compared to 443,000 in Q2 2023. Annual projections are also lower, at 1.5 to 1.6 million units versus 1.8 million last year. This has sparked debates among Tesla bulls and bears about demand.
On the ground, we’re seeing inventory increases for the Model 3 and Model Y in the US, with Model Y inventory up to 1,330 units on Tesla’s website. While Model 3 is enjoying inventory discounts and fantastic financing promotions (like 1.99% APR), Model Y discounts are still scarce. With the $7,500 federal tax credit potentially on the chopping block by year-end, now might be the time to act if you’re considering a purchase. Don’t forget to use a referral code (like the one in the description below) for perks like three months of FSD!
Whether you’ve just bought a Tesla or are about to, you’ve probably noticed that Tesla vehicles come with zero accessories—not even a phone mount! Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered with some of my favorite must-haves, partnered with Jowua and 3W Liners.
Jowua offers fantastic Tesla accessories to enhance your ownership experience. Here are a few I recommend:
Plus, Jowua has extras like a wireless game controller, portable air compressor, and even an electric scooter for getting around at charging stations. Use my promo code in the description below to save money and get free shipping on orders over $120. Thanks, Jowua, for partnering with the channel!
My top accessory recommendation? A good set of all-weather floor mats. I’ve tried many brands, but 3W Liners are my favorite for their quality and fit. I use them in my Model X, Model 3, Model Y, and even Cybertruck. They’ve just released a set for the Model Y Juniper, and I’ll be doing a test-fit video soon. Use my promo code below to save 25% and get a set for under $100 while supporting the channel!
I love hearing from you all, and during the stream, we had some great questions:
What are your thoughts on the Model Y Performance design or Tesla’s current market strategy? Drop a comment—I’d love to chat!
Quick bonus updates! A heavily camouflaged Model S refresh (likely the Plaid Performance) was also spotted at Nürburgring. It features a front bumper camera, minor cosmetic changes, a more aggressive rear diffuser, and sport rims with red calipers. However, it doesn’t look like a major overhaul—same front design with no Cybertruck-style light bar. Disappointing for some, but I’m still excited for any new Tesla release.
Also, a reminder: Congress is eyeing cuts to both the $7,500 new EV tax credit and the $4,000 used EV tax credit (for vehicles under $25,000 with income limits of $75,000 single/$150,000 joint). If passed, these could end by December 31st, so act fast if you’re in the market for a used Tesla or EV.
That’s all for today’s update! The Tesla Model Y Performance is shaping up to be an exciting addition with sporty upgrades, though I’m curious if Tesla will reveal more aggressive styling closer to launch.
