Hey everyone, welcome back to another update from DennisCW! Today, I’m diving into some juicy Tesla rumors and market updates that have been making waves. From a potential extended wheelbase Model Y with third-row seating to fluctuating trade-in values and upcoming Tesla incentives, there’s a lot to unpack. Let’s get started!
One of the most exciting rumors circulating right now is about a new Tesla Model Y variant featuring an extended wheelbase and three-row seating. According to a post by Zong Wen, production of this longer Model Y could begin as early as May at the Shanghai factory. This version is rumored to have six seats and might be exclusive to the China market, which is a bit of a bummer for those of us in other regions.
The current third-row option in the legacy Model Y is notoriously cramped, so an extended wheelbase could solve that issue, making it a more practical family vehicle. I’m curious to know—would you wait for a longer Model Y with a proper third row? Let me know in the comments!
Additionally, there’s talk of a one-week production pause in late April to prepare for this new version. While we wait for more concrete details, it’s clear Tesla is experimenting with different trims and configurations. Speaking of which, we’re also anticipating other Model Y variants like the rear-wheel-drive long-range and a new performance model. Exciting times ahead!
On the topic of Tesla’s broader strategy, analyst consensus suggests Tesla deliveries for this year might dip to around 1.731 million units, down from 1.789 million in 2024. This potential drop could push Tesla to roll out more incentives to boost sales. We’ve already seen significant discounts, like the $8,000 off on Cybertrucks, which seems to be moving inventory. Will Tesla throw everything including the kitchen sink at boosting numbers? I think so.
In the US market, Model 3 inventory is down, indicating strong sales, while Cybertruck demand is picking up with those hefty discounts. If you’re in the market for a Tesla, now might be a great time to check out inventory deals, especially as we approach the end of the month. I’ve got a deal spreadsheet linked below in the description if you want to snag the best offers before they’re gone.
Switching gears, let’s talk about the used car market. If you’re planning to trade in your current vehicle for a Tesla, you might be in luck. Recent posts show significant increases in trade-in values on platforms like Carvana. For example, a 2016 Chrysler Town and Country jumped from $11,800 to $19,200, and a Chevy Silverado saw a $9,000 bump in value. This uplift in the used car market could mean more cash in your pocket if you’re looking to upgrade to a Tesla.
I recommend checking multiple sources like Carvana, CarMax, and even local dealers to get the best trade-in value. Have you noticed a spike in your vehicle’s trade-in value recently? Drop a comment and let me know!
Now, if you’ve just bought a Tesla or are about to, you’ve probably noticed they come with zero accessories—not even a phone mount! Don’t worry, though; I’ve partnered with Jowua to bring you some must-have Tesla accessories. From phone mounts to keep your device secure during acceleration, center console organizers to avoid losing stuff, to an underscreen storage mount for sunglasses, Jowua has you covered.
They also offer cool extras like a wireless game controller, a portable air compressor for road trips, and even an electric scooter for those short walks from chargers. Let’s touch on the Full Self-Driving (FSD) transfer promotion that’s back. If you have FSD on an older Tesla, you can now transfer it to a new vehicle. Sounds great, right? But here’s the catch, as pointed out by Christopher: by transferring FSD, Tesla is no longer obligated to upgrade the older vehicle’s hardware (from Hardware 3 to 4). The new owner of your old car would have to pay for that upgrade themselves. It’s a brilliant move by Tesla to offload upgrade costs while encouraging owners to buy new vehicles.
I’ve been skeptical of FSD in the past due to constant hardware updates, but I must admit, the current FSD on my Model Y is impressively good—almost scarily so. If you’re curious about getting FSD at a lower cost (think 50% off), DM me on Instagram, and I’ll point you in the right direction.
For my Canadian viewers, here’s a bombshell: Tesla Canada has slashed prices on certain Model Y inventory vehicles by $15,000! This discount applies to non-launch edition new Model Ys available for immediate pickup. With tariffs and price adjustments looming, this could be your last chance to snag a Model Y at a lower price before costs increase. If you’re in the Canadian market, don’t sleep on this deal!
Lastly, there’s buzz about a potential Model S refresh. A mysterious prototype spotted recently could hint at an updated design, possibly featuring light bars similar to the Model Y. A concept rendering by Digi Mod Design showcases a futuristic look that could be the direction Tesla is heading. There’s also a wishlist floating around for the next-gen Model S and X, including 500-mile range, 500 kW charging, and massaging seats. While I’m tempering expectations, I’d love to see some of these features come to life. What’s on your Model S wishlist?
