Ranking Every Tesla Model I've Owned: Cybertruck #1, S & X on the Way Out
It's kind of sad to hear that Tesla is discontinuing the Model S and Model X. We all knew the market for these flagship vehicles wasn't massive, but are they even that exciting anymore? Do people really care? Don't get me wrong—these cars are great. But after owning 9-10 Teslas across the lineup (including multiple Model Ys, Cybertrucks, a Model Y Performance, S, X, and 3), I've got strong opinions on how they stack up.
I was chatting with a friend recently who's got one kid and was eyeing the Model X's third row—especially now that it's getting killed off. My advice? Skip it. The Cybertruck has killer utility, a spacious back seat, and you don't need that tiny (and honestly, kinda dangerous) third row unless you absolutely have to.
My Official Tesla Ranking: Best to Worst
Here's how I'd rank all the Teslas I've owned, prioritizing technology, driving comfort, space, utility, and overall experience:
-
Cybertruck 🔥
- Hands down the best. Unmatched tech, insane comfort, massive utility. It gets a bad rap because of its bold looks and Elon vibes (I've even had strangers flipping me off or calling me names—road rage much?). But drive one, and you'll get it.
-
Model S or Model Y (they flip-flop)
- The Model S is a beast in acceleration and luxury, but I'm honestly sadder to see it go over the X. The Model Y edges it out for everyday practicality.
-
Model Y or Model S (the runner-up of the two above)
- Both excel in comfort and versatility, but it depends on your needs.
-
Model X
- Falcon doors are cool, but that third row? Super cramped and not ideal for safety in a crash. Fine for occasional use, but not a game-changer.
-
Model 3
- Fun to drive and a solid commuter, but it's the smallest, sits low, and lacks the comfort/space of the others. Great entry point, though!
Why S & X Are Fading (And What Comes Next)
Low sales volume makes sense—these aren't volume sellers like the 3 and Y. Tesla needs to fill the gap with something bigger than the Robotaxi van. Families are jumping to rivals like the Rivian R1S or Lucid Gravity, which crush it in space and family-friendly features.
