Hey everyone, DennisCW here! If you're a Tesla fan like me, you've probably been buzzing about the latest news: the six-seater Model Y is finally breaking into the scene. In this blog post, I'll break down everything we've learned from the recent leaks and announcements, based on my latest video. This is initially a China-exclusive release, but fingers crossed it makes its way to the US soon. Let's dive in!
Tesla has been teasing us with the six-seater Model Y, often referred to as the Model Y L (for "Long"?). It's essentially an upgraded version of the standard Model Y, stretched out to accommodate that extra row of seats. From the images we've seen, it's keeping the iconic Model Y design but with some noticeable tweaks:
Unfortunately, Tesla hasn't shown us the interior yet. I'm guessing they're building hype by trickling out details – classic Tesla move! The release is slated for September in China, which puts it in late Q3 or early Q4.
One of the most exciting parts is comparing this to other EVs. Here's a quick side-by-side:
The taillights and headlights keep it distinct from the Model X, which is a smart design choice. No one wants it to look like a mini-X!
In China, this makes total sense with fierce competition from brands like Huawei and Xiaomi. Tesla can test the waters there before a potential global rollout. Yang Yan's post highlighted why this is crucial for staying competitive in that market.
Based on conversions from Chinese RMB to USD, the Model Y L could start around $55,764 in China. Factoring in US pricing trends, we're looking at an MSRP of about $60,000 here. That's a steal compared to the Model X, which can be double the price after incentives.
But here's the big question: Will this cannibalize Model X sales? If the Y L offers similar spacing at half the cost, why go for the X? And do buyers want six seats or seven? Personally, I think there's huge demand in the US – people with families will snap this up.
I'm excited, but let's be real: Even the Model X's third row can feel tight, especially with car seats or if you slide the second row back. The images show kids fitting okay, but for adults on daily drives? It might be more of a "weekend family shuttle" feature than a true daily driver for large groups.
Tesla needs a proper big SUV (think Tahoe or Escalade vibes) for ultimate comfort, but this is a solid step forward. They've likely engineered it to maximize space without going overboard on R&D costs.

Now that you've got your Tesla (or are eyeing this new Model Y), remember it comes with zero accessories – not even a phone mount! I've partnered with Joah to hook you up with essentials:
They also have cool extras like a wireless game controller, portable air compressor, and even an electric scooter for those supercharger walks. Use my promo code in the video description for savings and free shipping on orders over $120. Thanks to Joah for supporting the channel!
The six-seater Model Y L is shaping up to be a game-changer, especially for the Chinese market, with potential US vibes soon. It's bigger, better, and more family-friendly – but we'll need interior pics to seal the deal. Stay tuned for more updates, and let me know your hype level below!
