Hey everyone, DennisCW here! If you're a Tesla enthusiast like me, you've probably heard the buzz about the latest update to the Model 3. In this blog post, I'll break down Tesla's reintroduction of the turn signal stalk for the new Model 3 in China, discuss retrofit options, and share my personal thoughts on whether it's worth it. Plus, I'll spotlight my favorite all-weather floor mats that have been a game-changer for my Tesla fleet. Let's dive in!
Tesla has officially brought back the turn signal stalk for the refreshed Model 3 (2024 and up) in China. For those who aren't fans of the steering wheel buttons for turn signals, this is huge news. All new orders in China will now come equipped with the stalk instead of the buttons.
But what about existing owners? Tesla is offering a retrofit for leverless vehicles produced after February 7, 2024. The cost? Around 2,500 CNY, which translates to about $350 USD. It's not clear yet how this integrates with the existing buttons—maybe they'll be reprogrammed or removed to avoid redundancy.
This move raises an interesting question: Would you shell out $350 to get the turn stalk back? There are aftermarket options out there too, but they might lead to a clunky setup with both the stalk and buttons. I'd recommend going with Tesla's official retrofit if you're serious about it, as it should seamlessly replace the buttons.
Personally, I'm okay without the turn stalk—actually, I prefer the buttons! It took some getting used to, but once you're in the groove, it's way more effortless. Just a quick tap on the steering wheel versus reaching behind it to flick a lever? No contest for me.
That said, switching between vehicles can be confusing. Our Model Y has a traditional stalk, while the Cybertruck uses buttons. I've caught myself fumbling around, unsure where to press or flick. It's a small annoyance, but it highlights how habits form around these features.
If you've got a new Model 3, would you opt for the retrofit? Drop your thoughts in the comments below—I'd love to hear from you!
Shifting gears (pun intended), let's talk about something every Tesla owner needs: quality floor mats. If your new Tesla didn't come with all-weather mats, you're missing out. I've tested tons of options—3D Maxpider, Tesmanian, and various Amazon brands—but my absolute favorite is the set from 3W Liners.
I've got them in our Model X, Model 3, Model Y, and even the Cybertruck. They're durable, fit perfectly, and keep your interior spotless no matter the weather. Plus, they come with a lifetime warranty!
