Hey everyone, DennisCW here! If you’ve been following my channel, you know I’m always stressing the importance of having a dedicated Level 2 charger at home or work. Let’s face it—spending time at Superchargers isn’t the most efficient use of your day. But what if you do find yourself at a charger far from your usual spot? Well, I’ve got an accessory that could make those trips a lot more convenient and even fun. Today, I’m unboxing the Jawa Folding Scooter, a compact electric scooter with features that make it a perfect match for Tesla owners. Let’s dive in!
Picture this: you’re at a Tesla Supercharger in an industrial area with nothing much around. There’s a restaurant or shop across the highway, but walking there isn’t practical or safe. Instead of being stuck waiting for your car to charge, wouldn’t it be great to have a quick, portable way to get around? That’s where the Jawa Folding Scooter comes in. It’s designed to fit seamlessly into your Tesla lifestyle, and I’m excited to show you why.
Straight out of the box, I was blown away by how compact this scooter is. It’s brand new, sealed, and I hadn’t even charged it before filming, but I couldn’t wait to check it out. The package includes:
Right off the bat, the build quality impressed me. It has a nice heft to it, which is reassuring for something that can hit speeds up to 15.5 mph (25 km/h). Plus, it charges fully in just 4-5 hours, making it super convenient for quick top-ups.
For size reference, the scooter folds down small enough to hold with one hand. It’s got two sturdy wheels, a solid platform to stand on, and handlebars that fold and lock into place. Honestly, it’s the perfect size for portability without sacrificing functionality.
Now, let’s talk about why this scooter is a game-changer for Tesla owners. One of the standout features is its compatibility with Tesla vehicles—specifically, it’s designed to fit perfectly in the front trunk (frunk) of models like the Tesla Model Y. I tested it with my Model Y Juniper, and after clearing out some gear (like my Jawa tire inflator), the scooter slid right in. There was even extra space for a backpack or other items! The updated frunk design in the Model Y offers so much room, and the Jawa scooter takes full advantage of it.
Another cool feature? The included car charger. You can plug it into your Tesla’s 12V outlet to charge the scooter on the go. Combine that with the home charger, and you’ve got flexibility no matter where you are.
Setting up the scooter is straightforward, though there are a few latches and hinges to get familiar with:
Once it’s set up, the scooter feels sturdy and secure—no wobbling or risk of folding while riding. The handlebar controls are intuitive, featuring:
Even uncharged out of the box, the scooter powered on with a bright display (though it was hard to see in daylight). I took it for a quick test ride, and wow—it’s fast! I’m not even sure if I was in Sport mode, but it felt plenty zippy. The display shows your speed in real-time, which is a nice touch. There’s also a handy kickstand for when you need to take a break.
Here’s the real-world application: you pull into a Supercharger, plug in your Tesla, and realize you’ve got 30-40 minutes to kill. There’s a bathroom, food, or shop nearby, but it’s too far to walk comfortably. Instead of waiting around, you pop the Jawa scooter out of your frunk, unfold it in minutes, and ride over. It’s that simple.
Of course, safety first! I highly recommend wearing a helmet and even knee pads, especially since this scooter can pick up speed quickly. But once you’re geared up, it’s a fun and practical way to make the most of your charging time.
After the ride, folding the scooter back up is just as easy. It collapses down into its compact form and fits right back into the Model Y’s frunk. No hassle, no wasted space. I can see myself keeping this in my Tesla full-time for those unexpected stops.
The Jawa Folding Scooter is an awesome accessory for any Tesla owner who wants to maximize their time and mobility, especially during charging stops. Its compact design, Tesla-friendly fit, and versatile charging options make it a no-brainer. Plus, it’s just plain fun to ride!
