A camouflaged Model Y L just got caught on camera testing at the Fremont factory. This marks the next phase after multiple public sightings of the longer-wheelbase vehicle around California.
Model Y L Fremont Testing Progress
The drone footage shows the vehicle on Tesla's private tracks, which typically means production validation is underway. Combined with earlier sightings, this points to a realistic Model Y L release date in Q3 or Q4 of this year. Elon has already indicated US production won't start until late 2025 at the earliest, so any early units would likely come from Shanghai.
What This Means for Model Y L Price and Specs
Pricing remains the biggest unknown. My best estimate puts the Model Y L price at or slightly below the current Model Y Performance, possibly landing around $56,990–$57,990 to test demand. Expect it to cost more than the standard or Long Range Model Y but not dramatically more than Performance. Tesla Model Y L 2026 versions should bring extra cargo space and third-row seating, making it a strong alternative for families who currently camp in their Model Y.
If you're considering selling your current Model Y to upgrade, now is a good time to get offers since launch deals on new variants are rarely aggressive.
Should You Wait?
Unless you need a car immediately, waiting makes sense. Current Model Y financing deals with 0–0.99% APR and three months of free Full Self-Driving are available when you use a referral. Tesla referral — 3 months free FSD + low APR financing is still the best way to lock in those incentives before the Model Y L arrives.

Bottom Line
The Model Y L specs and pricing will become clearer once more vehicles appear. Until then, the Fremont testing footage is the strongest signal yet that a 2025 launch is realistic.
