Rivian R2: What the Latest Delivery Quote Means

I got my hands on a screenshot from a Rivian rep responding to a customer inquiring about delivery times. Here's the key quote:

"To be transparent about timing, what we've been told so far is that reservations placed around now are currently tracking for early to mid next year for delivery. I don't have direct visibility into the live Q and beyond knowing what that existing R1 owners will receive some sort of priority so I can't provide an exact place in line or a firm date."

This is great news in my book! We placed our R2 order back in March 2024, so we're ahead of the curve. With rumors of over 100,000 pre-orders, it sounds like Rivian could clear those by the end of this year or early next, paving the way for newer orders to land in early to mid-2025.

The rep also noted:

"The only real way to position yourself for an earlier delivery would be to purchase an existing vehicle from someone who reserved when orders first opened in March 2024."

Funny advice, right? If you're impatient, hit up the second-hand market. Existing R1 owners get priority, which makes total sense—Rivian is rewarding loyal customers who helped build their production pipeline.
