Why I Keep Disengaging Tesla's Full Self-Driving: The Routing Nightmare Exposed
Hey everyone, DennisCW here! If you're a Tesla owner diving deep into Full Self-Driving (FSD), you've probably experienced that frustrating moment when you have to grab the wheel and disengage. Lately, there's been a bit of a commotion in the community, and it's all about why we're hitting that disengage button so often—especially with FSD's navigation on highways and city streets.
The Recent FSD Drama
Some of you might have seen the photo I posted on social media. Tesla has finally rolled out a new feature: disengagement reasons. Now, when you take over from FSD, you can select why—like safety concerns, hesitation, or other issues. It's a great step for data collection and improvements, but there's one glaring omission: routing.
I strongly believe Tesla should add "routing" as an official disengagement reason. Why? Because I bet 80-90% of disengagements stem from FSD's absolutely bonkers navigation choices!
Real-World Examples of Routing Gone Wild
Picture this: You're cruising along, FSD engaged, and suddenly it decides to take a detour that's completely unnecessary. Instead of going straight down a clear highway, it veers off for a wild loop around the block. What the heck, Tesla?!
Even today, I found myself flipping FSD on and off multiple times because of these weird route decisions. It's not just minor inconveniences—these paths can add serious time and frustration to your drive.
What's Your Disengagement Story?
I'm curious—what's your go-to reason for disengaging FSD?
- Safety issue? (E.g., unexpected obstacles or risky maneuvers)
- Poor routing? (The most common culprit, in my book)
- Too hesitant or not aggressive enough? (Lingering at lights or merging timidly)
- Something else?
