Tesla has confirmed major improvements to both pothole avoidance and navigation are landing in the Tesla FSD v15 update.
The biggest pain point right now is navigation. Effectiveness has dropped from 95% to just 77% on regular routes because the maps are terrible and the system refuses to learn from daily drives. It keeps routing down weird side streets instead of the obvious path.
FSD v15 pothole avoidance
Owners report the car still hits potholes hard enough to knock it out of Full Self-Driving mode. The good news is Tesla's AI engineers have already said dedicated FSD v15 pothole avoidance is in development. That lines up perfectly with the upcoming Tesla FSD v15 update.

Tesla FSD navigation improvements
The second fix is Tesla FSD navigation improvements. Elon confirmed the team is working on better route learning so the car actually remembers your regular commute instead of forcing random detours. If both issues get fixed, owners are saying they'd rate the system 8.5–9.5 out of 10.
Tesla AI5 hardware upgrade
On the hardware side, Elon revealed the Tesla AI5 hardware upgrade will ship with 96 GB of memory instead of the minimum LP5 configuration. This should give the next-gen cars more headroom for these new features.
FSD v15 release date
No official FSD v15 release date has been announced yet, but Tesla moves fast once the code is ready. The pattern is always the same — features keep improving after you buy, which is why there's never a perfect time to purchase.
