Hey everyone, DennisCW here! If you're in the market for a high-end Tesla like the Model S, Model X, or even the Cybertruck Cyberbeast, you've probably eyed that sweet Lux package. It bundles premium features and Full Self-Driving (FSD) Supervised for life—no subscription needed. Sounds like a dream, right? Well, buckle up because Tesla just dropped a massive update to the terms, and it's a game-changer.
In theory, the Lux package makes FSD feel like it's baked into the vehicle. But nope—Tesla's updated terms make it crystal clear:
"Not transferable to subsequent vehicle owners or to another vehicle."
That's right. If you sell your Lux-equipped Tesla, FSD disappears for the next owner, just like free supercharging transfers. It's more like a lifetime subscription tied to you*, not the car. This applies to Model S, Model X, Cybertruck, and Cyberbeast.
Lux package perks look great... until resale.
This shift means you're essentially committing to keep your Tesla until the wheels fall off. Planning to flip it in a few years? Think again—the resale value takes a hit without FSD. It's frustrating because core features like FSD should stick with the vehicle, especially at these premium prices.
I suspect this is Tesla's way of nerfing permanent FSD purchases and pushing subscriptions. Smart business? Maybe. But not great for long-term owners or the used market.
There's one intriguing workaround involving ownership transfers that could change everything. We're still early days, but keep an eye out—I'll update you as more details emerge.
